Re: Game Hint #1
I took the original hint and flipped it twice on word. I then changed the brightness and contrast of the picture to make out the writing. It turned out I was able to make out three words. Deeply, forked, and body. I searched this on google and it took me here http://www.sdgfp.info/wildlife/educa...nelcatfish.pdf
The picture seen in the background of the picture is a Blue Catfish and this link takes you directly to a pdf version of the book which was used to scan the hint out of. This might not mean anything but now we know directly where the picture came from. |

Also, this probably isn't important, but why did the GDC scan a water-stained photo out of a book instead of just pulling it off the pdf, wherever it is? |

They won't be from South Dakota. It's too cold for them, and almost too far north. If they're mainly Pacific fish, you're really out of luck; the only way is via the Gulf of Mexico and the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers. |

Re: Game Hint #1
i was thinking and i remembered that they moved the LA Regional to the long beach arena. I wanted to see if this was significant so I went online the arena's website and guess what I found.
"The outside of the Arena is covered by the world’s largest mural, “Planet Ocean”, which features a fabulous array of marine life by internationally renowned environmental artist, Wyland" |

Re: Game Hint #1
I dont know if this helps
"Opah or moonfish (Lampris regius) is one of the most colorful of the commercial fish species available in Hawaii. A silvery-grey upper body color shades to a rose red dotted with white spots toward the belly. Its fins are crimson, and its large eyes are encircled with gold. The moonfish's large, round profile may be the origin of its name. Moonfish landed in Hawaii range from 60 to over 200 pounds in round weight. A pelagic wandering species, it is often found in the company of tunas and billfish." Last edited by 360jbass : 14-12-2008 at 12:36. Reason: i messed up |

Re: Game Hint #1
Ok So... i just spent two hours reading all 50 some odd pages of this hint and i wanted to propose some ideas:
1.FTC is getting a revamp. 2.FIRST is really into this whole progression from FLL to FTC to FRC so are looking for ways to make them similar. 3.This year FLL was almost all about delivering objects or picking them up and moving them only one thing required activation an all time low. 4.FTC also is all about a lot of objects that need to be collected and delivered. 5.Last year FRC set a record for fewest field elements. What i thing this means is that we will be seeing a reinstatement of the Aim High kind of game with many game pieces to be processed efficently and then when you take into account the HINT #1 it makes it look like we will be fishing for something. and when you search moonfish you find the picture at a commercial fishing site who process large numbers of fish. I am trying to draw conclusions from things other than game hints because FIRST has a tendency to try to improve on the year before, usually from the perspective of the onlooker. So this might mean making all three tournaments more alike which so far this year they have done with FLL and FTC. P.S. Terrain has been present for the first time in two years for FLL and the first time ever in FTC so teams may want to think about 4x4 Robots ![]() |

Re: Game Hint #1
Inverting the colors in Paint actually helps quite a bit, and by tilting my moniter it becomes very easy to see that the letters are either overlapping or not in english (or both). There appear to be letters on top of numbers, or maybe it's the other way around. I really don't think the text is relevant to the competition. It looks like either something thrown in to mess with us or was an accident.

Re: Game Hint #1
I think its going to be a race track with different terrain and the game objects are similar to tetras.

I doubt we'll see a race game again, FIRST likes to completely change gears from one game to a very different new game.

Re: Game Hint #1
to make out the text in the background open the fishie up on photoshop. flip the image, then set the darkness to as dark as it will go. its an entry fro an encyclopedia or dictionary of something. but i dont think that FIRST would let something like that slip. this has to be relevant.

Re: Game Hint #1
It's also known as a moon fish. I'm thinking a luner lander. The FTC is doing something with weird surfaces. I doubt it will do anything with water. It's got a camera and a high speed router, so you most likely won't be able to see it. I'm guessing the text is in the hint picture because they scanned it out of a book. I doubt there is any info on it that you can't find on internet.
Check out a the trial robots. http://first.wpi.edu/FRC/cstechnical.html I agree that it will be on some crazy surfaces though. |
