Re: [FF]: 2009 Season Long FF
When the season long fantasy first idea was first created, it was similar to what you are suggesting. We picked 4 teams and had their scores average based on the number of regionals they attended. The only problem with this is that it took forever to score and there was faulty data for some regionals.
2006, run by Billfred 2007, run by Koko Ed (won by yours truly) I loved the way these drafts were run and I would love to see a return to this system, I would help someone run it if they would do the scoring. |

Looking ahead to after the drafts
I was already thinking about doing this, but...
After the season (or maybe after Kickoff), I was thinking of putting a poll out to see how the drafting process was and if there were any improvements that could be made. In hindsight, we can always think better, can't we? So at that time, a thread is put out with some questions and the more answers come in, the better. Or you could ask why something was done the way it was and get a straight answer. Also, after all the drafts are over and the dust has settled, I plan to publish the Excel spreadsheet with everyone's picks. It's a big one, but I think that having 30 pairs of eyes looking for errors/double picks instead of just one or two will virtually eliminate scoring-time random picks. It will certainly be published again after all regionals are complete for score-checking and draft-positioning purposes. |

Re: [FF]: 2009 Season Long FF
I was lucky #7! Someone had it in a quote. As a side note, I'm out of town all of next week and will only have internet for the 2nd half of it -- is it ok if I send all of next week's lists in this weekend?

I usually send all my lists 3-4 days before the draft, so you can do that...

Re: [FF]: 2009 Season Long FF
Send as many lists as you want. There's at least two people who have all their lists in already (as in, before the season).

Your Attention Please!
The following player will receive a warning PM tonight if they don't show up for the draft:
Stephi Rae Again, if there is no list or pick in response to the PM, the player will be booted from the league and all teams that the player has will be up for grabs. (Leading off both drafts--there's a really good reason to show up!) |

Re: [FF]: 2009 Season Long FF
I don't mean to knock those running FF this year, but think a new system would be really nice.
I was originally signed up, but decided to back up because it was simply too much work. I want to do a FF, but having a draft every night is simply too much work. Also, I know on average 15 teams per regional so ranking every team, for me atleast, seemed kinda like a waste. I may get one team I know, but after that it would basically be random and thus my chances of winning would be almost based on chance. I know it was touched on earlier, but I find the way it is run now very confusing and unorganized. I still haven't found the rules and how points are decided. I think this may be a good system, but there are just too many regionals. With the amount of regionals increasing, I think this system will eventually be nearly impossible. My proposal: I like the idea of drafting a set number of teams at the beggining of the year and then 'playing' only a couple each week. One problem of this would be one massive draft. So, instead of having one huge league, have a couple smaller leagues (10 or 20 people). You could run them like soccer and have teams move up or down the leagues based on how they did the past year (the first year would be random, but the next year the top 10 teams would be in league 1, the next 10 in league 2...and new teams placed in the last league). It would work something like this (the numbers probably will have to be slightly altered): If you had 50 people that want to play, you split them up into 5 leagues of 10. Each team would draft 20 teams. You could have 1 round per night for 20 days in december. 200 teams would be drafted (so people shouldn't be stuck with some random rookie team that they know nothing about). Each week at 7 pm on Wednesday, each owner will pick 3 teams to play that week (to make it easier, you could make it impossible for owners to drop/pickup teams). At the end of each week and at the end of the year, points will be tallied and after the championship event, a winner is announced. As the end of the 2nd year, the top 2 teams move up a league, while the bottom two teams move down. (so the best play the best and the owner that wins the top league, is the true FF champion). Since it appears there are several people that are interested in helping, one person could be in charge of each league. |
