Go to Post I think there are a ton of teams that would kill for one let alone three engineering mentors (especially one with the knowledge and experience that Rich Olivera has). - XaulZan11 [more]

Thank You Teachers!

Today is the last day of the school semester for many of our students and teachers before the holiday break. The day the FRC teams gather at their 'local' Kick Off location will likely be the weekend before the spring semester starts for the schools, the students, and the teachers and administrators.

For many of our heroes who have chosen education as their field, their specialty, their vehicle for imparting wisdom, knowledge, and caring - this welcome break will allow them a little time to gain perspective regarding the accomplishments of this past semester and the personal achievements in areas that only teachers can know so well: the shy smile of the freshman who starts to 'get' high school and the opportunities that lie in subjects waiting to be explored and discovered. The struggle of the underachiever who has gotten his or her first B or first A in a class they find daunting or intimidating. The breakthrough that comes with vigilance and with consistency that helps shed light on the student's future path. The jokes and puns and special teaching moments that make everyone aware that that moment was special. Many of the special moments can be attributed to the teacher's commitment, genius, dedication, ability to think outside the box or the environment that surrounds the student - the educational system as it is now, the budget cuts/limitations, the red tape, the attitudes that can be very negative coming from all sides. Yet those special moments still occur. Not only do they occur, they thrive. Many, if not all, students can think of that one teacher who has made a difference, who has reached out, who has gone the distance.

It's the last day of the semester for many and a welcome break awaits you. Take time to celebrate your gifts that you so readily share with your students and your teams. Thank you, teachers.

Jane

Re: Thank You Teachers!

I would like to second this and encourage others to too. My teachers are great, expecially the engineering teacher who runs the robotics team despite his bad back. Remember to thank your teachers.

Re: Thank You Teachers!

I would like to thank not just our only Engineering teacher and is also the only teacher in our Robotics team but also, all teachers that helped mold us into who we are now.

THANKS!
