Okay remember last year they had a rule about noisemakers???

i dont see that rule this year....

does that mean we can make noise as much as we want?

National last year was too much noise already... and they don't have rules this year~?!? I can still remember the sticks banging on the ground and the music, but mostly I just remember my ears hurting.

Maybe we can just hope that this year, there won't be as much noise as before...

I miss the Sigm@cats loud boombox travelling to their next match (my best pit memory from 99), and I miss hearing blowhorns when people win... and hey, being one of those people with the sticks, I LOVED THEM TOO!!! (Even though some places with wooden floors didn't...)

that's the whole part of the competition.. cheering for your team...

is everyone just supposed to sit down w/ their hands in their laps and watch matches..

no way.. go noise... make lots of it.. something has to make this competition exciting..

people who don't like the noise can go watch on one of the many big screens... like erin said.. it's "fundamental" to the competition

Frankly. the noise and excitement are part of the whole scene that is FIRST. you don't get psyched at a golf tourney with the guy with the little yellow sign telling you to be quiet...

go Happy Gilmore people! take this quiet "seemingly-unexciting" game and have fun! make ruckus!

Okay. Perhaps that really wasnt my place. Bah, whatever. Anyways, I think that as long as the noise is kept to a minimum of oh, say, none from noisemakers/cheering/cart music in the pits, it's all good. But why eliminate it from the fields. Go deaf. That's part of the fun. Isnt that part of the reason for cheering and bringing noise makers to a football or baseball game? It's exciting, make all the noise you can with whatever you got. Just keep it out of the pits and it would be fine.

Victory laps should be taken outside and not in the pits. That was one thing that created a lot of the trouble. Oh, and apologies for getting musical carts and whistles banned earlier years. If you guys think you had it bad just listening, try being in the center of a group of 80 students all with those wistles. In 98 team 108 heard them for a good 3 weeks if not more after the competition. And we kept on smilin. Hey, we did offer free earplugs!

Lose your voice. Then go home and have your director rip out his hair 'cause his strongest soprano can barely talk. Actually, it won't be a problem this year, "Brigadoon" ::shameless plug:: is a week before Nationals, so I can lose my voice at UTC too...those will be interesting morning announcements after I return

There's a rule in the Regionals overview section saying no audio systems, whistles, or blow horns in the pit area...I don't see anything (yet) about around the field...I don't really have a whole lot of time to look here either...

i don't know about any rules, so i'm just dispensing my opinion...

last year at competition, teams had noise makers, whether it be home made or purchased... and some of them (not all of them) were very VERY very loud. example being tall wooden sticks which were used to smash against the stands. i guess nobody else noticed, but when i would walk in front of or behind the stands while that was happening, it would beat my ear drums, leave my ears ringing for half an hour afterwards, and give me a headache.
having spirit and going crazy for your team is great! i'm all for that, i mean just look at GRTs team at nationals. but sometimes it gets excessive, imho.

Okay? There is a difference in cheering for your team and going crazy. I believe you should be able to cheer for your team as much as possible. There is a line though, some noise is just simply crazy. So I would keep the noise to a common sense level. Not a crazy level.

I think that anything that you can do with your own voice is fine. I don't mind people yelling or screaming for their team. What I don't like is when a team from a sponsor that sells hearing aids pulls out everything possible to make me lose my hearing. There is nothing wrong with showing team spirit by cheering on your team, but there is a line that should not be crossed.

As for in the Pits, I think those should be left for working on your robot. It isn't very easy to work when everyone is blaring their music from their robot cart, or making sure that everyone knows that team xxx has the best whistles. Especially when you are in the pits, please consider gracious proffesionalism before you make too much noise.
