Carpet difference or not...?
Hey guy's, I have been reading some thread's and it looks like people are saying the carpet on the outer edge of the "Crater" will provide some traction. In my mind I would think that the carpet would be worse to drive on then the "Regolith". I need some opinions! Thanks

Re: Carpet difference or not...?
From our tests with a practice robot, the carpet seems to give a very slight traction advantage.

Re: Carpet difference or not...?
I think the carpet will be a huge factor in this years game. The carpet will not allow teams to be pinned as much as we think. Although it is not a huge advantage, it is a big enough one to be able to spin out of pinned situation.

Re: Carpet difference or not...?
In our tests the carpet provided a small (but noticeable) traction advantage, but not too much. It ought to be enough to defend against pinning, and robots which are on the carpet ought to be able to push robots which aren't. It will probably be a factor, but not a gigantic one.

Re: Carpet difference or not...?
Do you have the Regolithe? Because you can just test that with the wheel, and once again, it is very noticably different. The carpet was put where it is so that robots can not be pinned very easily.

However, as noted by the bold, we cannot think that a pinned robot will be able to spin out due to the trailer. They will be able to move side to side along the wall, but will never be able to make that quick turnaround exit (or spin) that we usually think of when trying to evade pressure from other robots. Re: Carpet difference or not...?
If the carpet is deep and fluffy than the wheels could get stuck in it but i dont think that the carpit will be anything above 1/2 in

It is indeed very thin and hard. Not deep and fluffy at all. |

Re: Carpet difference or not...?
Has anybody attempted to get the coefficient of friction between the rover wheel and the carpet?
