Q&A166: Bolts are fasteners. Period

Posted by Joe Johnson at 2/7/2001 6:19 AM EST

Engineer on team #47, Chief Delphi, from Pontiac Central High School and Delphi Automotive Systems.

As I read Q&A166, all the debate about axles vs. link pins vs. shafts vs. fasteners is all moot.

Bolts are fasteners. Period. No debate.

Probably makes some folks happy.

I don't really have a dog in this fight so I don't much care one way or the other.

Any thoughts?

Joe J.

Q166. Are bolts used to attach the wheelchair wheels to the robot (allowing them
to rotate) considered "fasteners" (allowed) or "shafts" (not allowed)?

A166. Bolts are considered fasteners no matter how they are used. This is a
change in interpretation from previous years.
