Last year's motors?

Posted by Chris Orimoto at 2/9/2001 2:28 PM EST

Student on team #368, Kika Mana, from McKinley High School and Nasa Ames/Hawaiian Electric/Weinberg Foundation.

Also, in addition to my last post, would we be able to
use last year's motors on this year's robot if we do
not exceed the maximum amount of motors allowed?

Thanks to all,

Chris, #3

We typically use last year's motors for prototyping testing, and practice. Then when we get the robot working the way we want, we swap them for this year's motors. That way we enter competition with "fresh" motors. Also if we fry a motor because of poor design/fab we burn a "spare" not a good motor.

Motors from previous years are not in the kit, or on the additional hardware list, or available from Small Parts. Therefore they are not allowed (although they are fine for testing, etc...)

You could probably replace a broken motor with a motor from previous years, but I'm not sure on the legality of that. I am sure you cannot have, for example, 3 drill motors.
