Payload Specialist & Commander

We all know that the Payload Specialists (PS from now on) have to pick up the balls with the grabber. First off, since we still only have one ball, can someone tell me how hard it is to pick up multiple balls with the grabber, and in general how hard the grabber is to use? How many balls can a PS hold while using the grabber (physically, not per the rules)?

C. - PAYLOAD SPECIALISTS retrieving GAME PIECES passed from the CRATER through the AIRLOCK / FUELING PORT must use the provided tongs to pick up the GAME PIECE from the floor. Failure to do so will cause a PENALTY to be assessed.
The rules say that the PS has to use the grabber and that only the PS can enter balls on the field. Does this mean that the commander could use the grabber and pass the balls directly to the PS? It could really speed up the PS if so.
Ideas, opinions?

Re: Payload Specialist & Commander

From the Kickoff Broad cast and TBA the "tongs" appear to be these:

I don't think the Commander can use the tongs, though your right I don't see a specific rule against it. My guess is there will be an update saying they cannot.

Looking at this I think that the commander cannot use the tongs during the match, however, I could easily be wrong

I would have posted that exact quote if you hadn't first. I have the same interpretation of it as you. If the commander isn't allowed to touch the game pieces, this means with the tongs, too.

Re: Payload Specialist & Commander

from how i am reading those rules, it seems that the payload specialist is only required to use the tongs when getting balls that were on the field. i may be mistaken, but your question seemed geared towards the ability to get balls over the wall, and into play. as i'm reading it, the tongs don't come into play there.

if i'm wrong, please correct me, because it seems fairly important.

I'm not asking anything to do with throwing/putting/dropping balls over the wall. I'm only concerned about picking them out of the fueling station.

The way I read the rules, the GAME PIECES are the orbit balls, not the tongs. I can't find any rules about or any limitation to use of the tongs by other people (other than the payload specialists).
