Yes, the trailer was finished after the videos were shot but we were simulating the best we could at that point. We found we got the most distance when we ran them at the same speed. When we tried putting some backspin on the ball by running one slower, it didn't shoot very well, but we also didn't spend a ton of time on that either so I'm sure it could be perfected.

Our shooter is producing very similar results.

Was the shooting the ball into a ramp part of an initial design consideration or was that just a quick way to prototype launch angle?

What gear ratio did you use on the CIM (looks like 1:1)?

One improvement, when the ball is going to the goal in slow motion, you should play chariots of fire...

both prototypes used an AM Gen2 gearbox in high gear and a 1:1 sprocket reduction, so I think the reduction is 4.17:1. I know some other teams run faster, but we figured this gives you some torque to keep the wheels up to speed if you're planning on firing a lot of moon rocks in a short span of time (wink wink nudge nudge)

A little of both really. We just used a bunch of wooden boards to see how much the ball would compress and shoot. Eventually it gets to the point where the ball is compressed too much and springs out as it's coming out.

Yeah we discovered the same thing...Our prototype allowed for compression of the ball from 5 inch up to 9 inch, so we saw how the ball reacted at a bunch of different compressions.
