Problems with the Axis Camera

We are having some problem with the AXIS network camera...

We hooked up the orange crossover cable to the camera and the other end directly into the computer...

When we try to access the camera with the IP:192.168.0.90 and it couldn't find it...

We have tried with DHCP and static IP address neither one worked.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to why the computer can not access the camera? Any input would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Re: Problems with the Axis Camera

Try connecting the camera to the PC directly using the orange crossover cable. Power up the camera. Set the IP of your NIC to 192.168.0.20 (for example), netmask 255.255.255.0. Now try pinging/accessing the camera with a browser at 192.168.0.90

Re: Problems with the Axis Camera

I just recently had a similar experience working with team other than my own.

They had been "playing around" with the Camera previously and no one read the instructions. I did find out later that a student changed the root password.

What worked was...
Make sure that you are using the Orange Cross Over Cable

Laptop/PC:
Turned off the Firewall.
Used an IP address of 192.168.0.1
Used a Netmask of 255.255.255.0
Removed the default gateway.

Axis Camera:
Follow the instructions that come with the Camera itself to reset to "factory defaults". If after the reset you are prompted to enter a user/password use root/pass

We were then able to connect to the camera and configure as per the F.I.R.S.T. documents

Re: Problems with the Axis Camera

I think that I am having a similar problem. I have
a laptop at 192.168.0.1
subnet mask 255.255.255.0

I am currently trying to use the AXIS IP Utility to assign an IP address but none of the choices seem to work at all. Am I missing something?

Update: The camera seems to be able to connect to the computer when I plug it into the router but then I cannot run the Labview setup on it, I don't know if this helps at all

Re: Problems with the Axis Camera

We've been able to set up the camera when it's directly connected to the PC... The problem now is getting it configured when it's connected to Ethernet Port 2 on the cRIO...

My second question is... What program are we supposed to use to configure the camera to track colors/shapes, etc. and once we do that, how are we supposed to change it into C/C++ code (for use with the WindRiver IDE)?

Re: Problems with the Axis Camera

I'm having the same problems, and couldn't solve them after reading all replies.

I connected the camera to my notebook with a crossover cable, set my computer IP to 192.168.0.6/255.255.255.0 and no default gateway, accessed 192.168.0.90, changed the root password to "admin" and created the account FRC//FRC.

when I use the "setup axis camera", i get the message "Unable to log into the camera. Manually create a user with username "FRC" and password "FRC", or restore the camera to the factory settings and run this program again."

I already added such user in the camera, I set it as admin and viewer and none worked.. what can I do??
thanks.

All I can suggest is that you use the second option: restore to factory settings and try again. If the setup program fails after that, perhaps your camera is faulty.

Re: Problems with the Axis Camera

I'll try to reset the settings but I doubt the camera itself is faulty... If so, then a lot of people have a lot of faulty cameras...

I'll let you know how it goes...

Re: Problems with the Axis Camera

I seem to be able to use the camera (get onto the homepage through the installation software and see the live view) when it is at the IP address 192.168.1.90 and is connected through the router but as soon as I connect it to the computer, this all goes away. And I am still not able to use the camera setup from labview. My computer is at 192.168.1.1, is this a problem? Any help will be appreciated

UPDATE: I think that I have gotten it to work, but this is on a different computer then I was using earlier, so I will have to try more tomorrow. I didn't use the program that came with the cameram, I went to the page on my browser that got me to the home page of the camera. I then went to the setup tab (top of the window) and went in there. In one of the left side tabs, Basic Settings or something like that there is a sub-category of TCP/IP and I went into that and changed the IP address to the right one. I also deleted the 3rd one down, like default router. This seemed to work, as I went to the new IP address in my browser. Then I went to the Set up Axis Camera, and SUCCESS!!

Re: Problems with the Axis Camera

I tried reseting and nothing happened.

I too can use the camera through a browser typing the IP, only the setup program that came with labview doesn't work.

I did everything in the "CONTROL SYSTEM CONFIGURATION" pdf, triple checked, and nothing.

Re: Problems with the Axis Camera

For us we could access it through a direct PC to camera connection via the crossover cable but the software also didn't work. Yet when we plugged it into the control system LV found it no problem so i would try LV and if it works just forget about the camera application....

Re: Problems with the Axis Camera

How do you know if your camera is recognized when plugged into the cRIO? And what program are you supposed to use to monitor and track various colors or shapes using the camera? I'm guessing if this program "works" then that means the cRIO recognizes your camera when connected to the cRIO.
