[FTC]: Motor Trim

does anybody know any codes for trim for some of the motors?
we have an arm and 2 DC motors do not have enough torque to keep it up.

it needs to keep some power on the motors on all times.

Re: [FTC]: Motor Trim

try giving the motor a tiny bit of power. we did the same thing last year with the vex stuff.

with the vex equipement sending a value of +/- 5 under load would keep the motor powered enough to no long fall.

I'm sure someone out there has a more eligant way to solve this problem though. In robotC I'm guessing nate?

Re: [FTC]: Motor Trim

Define Trim and what exactly you are trying to do with the code...

Also the programming language would be nice as well.

Re: [FTC]: Motor Trim

He is using Robot C. Basically there is an arm with plenty of torque to go up and down, but once the arm goes down; it just keeps going unless the up button is hit. Last year with Vex we used trim on the remotes to to control the down motion.

What we want to know is: Is there a way using robot C to add trim to the DC motors? Or any other way?

Thanks

Re: [FTC]: Motor Trim

It's probably just as simple as reading the value from the joysticks. If the value is between -5 and +5 (which would normally be a good dead zone range), then send a +5 (or -5) power to the motors. That way when you release the joysticks, they'll still have power to keep the arm raised.
