Re: From CAD to SolidWorks

What type of file is it? If it's an Inventor file (.ipt, .iam, or something similar), you'll need to save it as something Solidworks can read, such as a STEP file.

Incidentally, my version of Solidworks--the Educational 2008 version--can supposedly open an Inventor file. However, it can't save one. Go figure.

(BTW, CAD stands for Computer-Aided Design. Solidworks is one of many CAD programs.)

Re: From CAD to SolidWorks

From January 16- January 25, 2009, I will give a SolidWorks T shirt to any student that loads a 2009kop model into www.3dcontentcentral.com for all teams to share in SolidWorks format. Select the category to "Robot Components" and the subcategory to "FIRST Robotics" when you drag/drop your model. It is correct that the supplied version of the 2009kop in Inventor and Pro|E file formats cannot be opened directly into SolidWorks or previous versions of Inventor or Pro|E. This is just silly.

However, I am working to get as many parts inside of SolidWorks in www.3dcontentcentral.com directly from the vendors that use SolidWorks, such as AndyMark, SMC, etc. That way all teams can have the ability to use model files that have already been designed. I dont want you or your mentors wasting time here.

Thank you Felix for the Orbital ball - your Tshirt is on its way. I know there are millions of parts in www.3dcontentcentral.com. Set your "My Favorites" category to User Supplied, Robotic Components, First Robotics to limit the large selection of search options.

If you submit a model file to www.3dcontentcentral.com, post the link on Chief Delphi, send me a private message on Chief Delphi with your shipping address, and I will send you a tshirt. Thank you. Marie
