MaxBotix LV-MaxSonar-EZ4

I tried testing the MaxBotix LV-MaxSonar-EZ4 sensor from SparkFun. I was using the analog output and the waveform varied from near 0V to approximately 1V like a square wave. The pulse width was not constant. I'm not concerned with what the voltage level was on the high side, but as far as I understand, the analog voltage should be fairly constant.

I tried implementing the filter (100k resistor and 0.1uF capacitor) that MaxBotix recommends on their FAQ, but that only rounded the edges of the squar wave.

In case you were wondering, I am positive that I'm connected to the analog output and not the PW output.

Has anyone had this problem with this series of sensors, and if so, what did you do to fix it?

Are you sure you're positive? because that really, really sounds like the PWM output. Just for giggles, check the other outputs, see what they look like, and tell us what you find, OK?

Re: MaxBotix LV-MaxSonar-EZ4

I'm sure that I'm positive. The fist thing I thought was that it looks a lot like a PWM signal. The only difference is it doesn't swing rail to rail.

We're ordering a new one, so we'll know if it was defective or damaged.

Re: MaxBotix LV-MaxSonar-EZ4

I believe you when you say you're certain you're connecting to the analog out. But are you as certain that you have the power connections correct?

Dear jescholler,

We have reviewed your problem and would be glad to replace your sensor. We are not sure what is causing this anomaly but would be glad to replace your sensor and then test the bad one.

Please email me with your shipping information and we will give you all the details.

I look forward to your email.

Best regards,
