the x, y, and z axes should be independent so this is likely not your problem. but, it is possible that maybe you did a bad soldering job or something. If you hook all three up and two work and one does not then you know where to look for the problem. If you hook all three up and none works then you are probably wiring it up backwards or not using the correct code to read it.
