Our $ 11 Million Budget

Brent:

Don't I wish we had an $11 million budget. If that was the case, there would be many more teams in Delaware than there are now!

Based on last season's Team Forum, our budget is basically in the middle of the pack. DuPont is our major sponsor. We also have many other sponsors that donate $$$, supplies, services, and food. Our team members also kick-in some bucks for food, travel to Nationals, and team jerseys.

We are fortunate in that many of our team members (both adults and students) have really good networks to people and businesses that can help our team in some way. We are also fortunate that DuPont Engineering allows us to have some workspace on their site. This really helps, especially when you have students from 11 local schools on the team.

If the impression is that The Miracle Workerz have a huge budget, it is probably due to the fact that we have performed another miracle - we make a modest budget appear large with the addition of gracious sponsors and creativity!

Regards.

John

I was proud of our 30k budget as the biggest ever. (six years veterans) We've always been under the impression that we were at the bottom of the pack - we (the 33 students) work out of the engineer's (yes, one) backyard shop.
Biggest expense is rooming at Nationals (17k).
I'm wondering, what do the other teams have? $40,000? What does your team demographic look like? (We're half girls and half underclassmen.) Do other teams have this kind of budget or are we just not spending well? Any input would help us.

We have a $53K budget, as far as I remember...or at least thats what I wrote on the yearbook form.

Also, next year I WILL get a minute to take a decent pic of the robot...which means that they can't be working on it up until the last minute. This year our robot is pictured on the back of one of the guy's pickup truck...only because that was the most complete pic of the robot I could get...and after I sent it I read in the instructions that "Your picture might be used at the National Competition"

::cringe:: oh well

That, and the entire yearbook submission is in prose, but that's besides the point

Team Budgets - Nationals

It would be interesting to see what percent of team's budgets are spent solely on the Nationals. About half of our total budget is sucked up for the Nationals. And with 340 teams attending this year, that is big-time bucks.

I really believe that, if not for the expense of the Nationals, there would be many more teams out there willing to make a go of the Competition. We were fortunate to be able to attend last year (our rookie year) and this year. But, I feel sorry for the teams that hear all this neat stuff about the Nationals (and it IS neat), but cannot afford to attend.

Don't get me wrong -- I love the National Competition and there is nothing like it anywhere. It is just so expensive for teams.

Thoughts?

John

This is one of the most eye-catching robots I've seen so far! It looks extremely good! I am wondering how your team machine the structure... especially the curve on the side. The robot looks really nice and compact.

One thing about the stretcher: I don't believe you are allowed to have an empty stretcher in the playing field.

I think it was Team update 6 that says an empty stretcher is OK, but you only get 10 points (instead of 20 if a robot was on it).
