At kick off, when the bridge is down on one side, it clearly shows that there is NO space between the bridge and the ground. So, it is a valid problem.

But it doesn't seem like a really big problem. Because, you have to remember that there are the handles on the side of the bridge the plate can go under. And one you raise the bridge once, you can place the plate under the bridge so that when it come down the plate will be comfortably sitting under the bridge waiting to lift up again.

And if you watched the Wildstang video, you can see that they have no problem sliding a plate under the bridge lip. My guess is the plate is thin enough and pushed against the carpet so much that it can slide under the steel lip easily.

So, this problem points to a different aspect of how your robot will work. The question is not whether it will work or not, but how smoothly can your robot perform its task during a game and how good of a flow your robot have during the match.
