I love the site. I haven't exactly had time to browse the entire site (having issues reinstalling XP) but from what I see so far, it looks good.
I believe that even though you may use different systems/software to create the two sites (main and media), you should strive to make them look as uniform as possible, yet still make them distinct. For example, on our sites, I took a template that was made for the main site, and somewhat copied it for the media site. Same background image, took the color scheme from the main and incorporated it into the media site, even if it technically doesn't look the same.
