Re: Another build day lost

We've lost two - we build at the school, so when it's closed, it's closed for us too.

Course, we're moving SO slow this year it hardly matters. Ugh. The room is hopping right now - let's hope they keep it up for the next two weeks.

Where our team is, we pretty much never get snow days. We had one during December, but haven't had any during build so far, thankfully.

it actually doesnt snow here in hawaii, but we had a "high wind" day where they canceled school at all public schools and the university, so we lost a build/programming/communication work day ><

Re: Another build day lost

Our schools let out early Monday for the ice storm and have had no power since then and no hope of power for days. Most of our engineering mentors are desperately trying to get the Baxter Healthcare plant running again. We are trying to meet in my basement tonight and do whatever we can on generator power. So far I have only even been able to get in touch with a couple of team members. I guess we will show up with the first robot held together with candle wax!

Re: Another build day lost

Bah, every year I hear complaints about snow days coming from south of the border. We haven't had a snow day here in Southern Ontario for more than 4 years, and we've had snowfalls as much as 20-30cm(8-12") overnight semi-frequently. Even if we did, our lead mentor has keys to the school and we'd go in anyway. I can't help but laugh at areas getting <1" of snow and calling a snow day. More than 1" of snow fell during my drive to work today, and I got here just fine. I might be able to understand if say southern california were to get 5" out of the blue, but 1 or 2" is no big deal on the all-season tires that come as standard issue on most cars. Cripes, we still get snow on Week5 of competitions for GTR sometimes.

EDIT: Power Outages are a bit different. As I recall, that was the reasoning for the extension in 2003, because some areas were without power for a significant length of time during build.

Re: Another build day lost

While Vancouver's exceptionally unusual massive snowfall this winter was conveniently timed for the Christmas break, so far we have "lost" build time to mid-year exams, the provincial FTC tournament, and today's build is cancelled as our VEX teams are heading over to Vancouver Island.

One makes due with what one has,

Jason

We have never lost build days for snow. We always manage to come in even when we have snow. WE have always been lucky enough.
