Attention ALL High School students!

Coach on team #419, Rambots, from UMass Boston / BC High and NONE AT THE MOMENT! .

Hi all--

I recall when I was on my former team, being the noisiest on it (OMIGOD ARE YOU SHOCKED?), I did something that all of you guys should do on your own teams.

I got everyone's attention and told everyone to thank our team leader for all the hard work, effort, time, and patience she gave to us (me especially ). She had made an impact to us and her efforts reached far and wide. And so after that I think I saw a teardrop fall from her eyes.

SO I say this, when you guys have the time, please thank your team leaders, engineers, adults, parents, etc, who ALL made your team what it is today. If student captains made a lot of effort, then give them recognition as well. Your team leaders are the main reason why your team exists, why you have a robot, and why we all learn from this wonderful recognition of science and technology.

Trust me, from what I have read in here, your team leaders are burnt out, almost ready to give up, thinking about whether or not they wish to do this next year.

Many of the team leaders out there are not getting paid for their time, and if they are, very underpaid. They do it because they love its effect on high school students, ultimately the spirit of FIRST.

If you love FIRST and what it has done for you, then please, I recommend you come up with anything for your leaders. Whether it be a party, a gift, or even letters of appreciation. I promise you that they will appreciate it.

One small piece of paper of recognition and appreciation will go a long way, for your team leader and ultimately the future of your team.
