Anyone can watch Westcoast Choppers and see adults build things, but FIRST is great because it encourages kids to do the building and adults to do the watching.

I'm wondering why the spread of a successful company is "scary?" Apparently they are doing more than one thing better than anyone else.

There are many ways to measure success, and Walmart doesn't do well on all of them. Corn is a "successful" business for the processors of it, but that doesn't make it good. I look forward to being able to afford to shop in stores that pay a living wage to their employees and operate their business in way more in line with my worldview.
