I am going to promote it since she did a few posts lower. It is an IRC chat which is really nice and pretty easy to understand.
I hope you can all join us!!

Like Lora posted earlier this is an IRC chat, but you don't need to know IRC to use the java client that Lora set up.

If you do know IRC and would like to use your own IRC client, the server is irc.webmaster.com and the channel is #firstrobotics

There are just a few things to know that you should keep in mind.

When you first enter the channel your nickname will be FIRSTnut. Lora is asking that everyone use their real name followed by their team number. to change your nickname type "/nick newnickname". Spaces are not allowed so use an underscore (_) instead.

On the right side of the screen you will see a list of people. The ones with an @ sign before their name are the channel operators. They have the ability to ban you and/or kick you out of the channel. Please remember gracious profesionalism when you are in the chat room. A good rule to use is ask your self "Would I say this same thing to my father, grandmother, pastor or post it on chiefdelphi?".

If you have any other questions about the chat room, direct them to Lora. If you have any questions about IRC in general there will probably be a few people who can answer your questions. both myself (JoeRoss_T330) and Tom (TomBOBCAT177) can answer your questions (Plus some other experienced people will probably drop in).

BTW, thanks Lora!!!

i am in high support of IRC. I love it myself.

let's go do this chat thing.

On the other hand, I also enjoy AIM chat which allows everyone their customized colors (therefore easier to read) etc. Happy FACES are always cool.

In theory, the JAVA client that uses IRC can be programmed to allow users their own colors and graphic happy faces as well. Anyone wanna work on it with me?

Thanks Joe for posting and being the resident IRC guru ;o) (Yes Tom, you too!) Hope everyone enjoys the chat...seems to be pretty popular right now ) Any questions, comments, suggestions - either post or boot me an email...

and thanks again to Joe and Patrick for suggesting the IRC route rather than the horrid little perl script I had up before!
