my welders are asking cause some of our welds weren't exactly 90 degrees

We used welding jigs this year. They worked better than what we have done before. The welder was grateful for them; from now on we will be using them. Once we finished the 2D stuff using the welding jigs and went to 3D of putting them all together we used a set of 90 degree clamps and a Square, which made things fit fairly well.

Welding jigs are pretty much required.

Our most important jigging operation is for the running frame,
we use a flat metal plate for that, but it would be even better
if there were two plates to sandwich the frame in, leaving the
corners exposed for welding. By being careful about the order
of the welds you can minimize pulling as welds cool.

We do. Mostly improvised stuff, but it works.

You really should plan out all welding operations, both order and clamping, to ensure the final product comes out square and the way you want.
