Re: pic: 294 teaser

It's the plywood backing that was used to cut the 3/8 thick aluminum turret plate (a sprocket) on the GKN water jet.

The teeth look #25 pitch to me, wouldn't that make the aluminum plate 1/8"?

Re: pic: 294 teaser

It looks more like a timing belt pulley (a really really big one!) than a chain sprocket, so 3/8" makes sense.

Good catch Adam. You and Ryan are correct. 3/8 would be way too heavy!

Re: pic: 294 teaser

You have us beat. We cut out a 180 tooth 25 series sprocket for our turret. Ours was done with a laser though.

AND how to you plan to place the chamfer on the sprocket teeth?? I can think of some interesting solutions but am curious as to your plans...

.... or are you leaving them square and hoping for the best by keeping the chain tension "extra tight" since I assume this will lie in a horizontal plane....

GKN's largest lathe can handle 20" diameter parts, which is where we will be doing our work. If it really came down to it we could stick it up on our VTL we use for our 6ft diameter engine nozzles. :-)

Very nice. We cut a 183 tooth timing pulley for our turret on a laser cutter out of quarter and eighth acrylic. Works very well.
