How can you add more rom space to the cRIO?

I don't know exactly what it's called but we don't want to increase the temporary memory on our cRIO, we want to increase the space for deployed code that stays on the cRIO. Is there something we can buy and install, possibly some instructions on how to do it too?

Thanks,

Comatose

More Info:

I found in the rules it says:

R59>
The control system is designed to allow wireless control of the ROBOTS. The Driver Station, cRIO Mobile Device Controller, speed controllers, relay modules, wireless bridge, batteries, and battery charger shall not be tampered with, modified, or adjusted in any way (tampering includes drilling, cutting, machining, gluing, rewiring, disassembling, etc.), with the following exceptions:
A.
Programmable parameters on the Driver Station may be set as appropriate.
B.
User programmable code in the Mobile Device Controller may be customized.
C.
Dip switches on the Mobile Device Controller may be set.
D.
Speed controllers may be calibrated as described in owner's manuals.
E.
The supplied fans attached to the Victor speed controllers may be powered from the Victor power input terminals.
F.
The fuse on the Spike relays may be replaced with a 20 Amp Snap-Action circuit breaker.
G.
The alligator clips on the battery charger leads may be replaced with Anderson Power Pole connectors (note: this is a recommended modification).
H.
Wires, cables, and signal lines may be connected via the standard connection points provided on the devices.
I.
Appropriate fasteners may be used to attach the device to the OPERATOR CONSOLE or ROBOT."?]

Does any of this stop you from adding additional space to the cRIO?

Yes, the first part does. You can't modify the cRIO.

However, I do believe that custom circuits are allowed, provided that they are "slaves" of the cRIO; i.e., don't control anything directly. You also must conform to <R66> and <R67>.

There is no method for expanding the 128MB SSD that is included on the controller, nor the 64MB of RAM. There is external SD storage, but it isn't supported in this year's kit. Just out of curiosity, why are you asking?

Comatose,

The advise that Eric and Chris gave is correct. However, in my wildest imaginations I can not conceive of a reason for any team to have to do so.

To echo Chris' comment, what are you trying to do? Or rather, what makes you think that you need more memory?

Regards,

Mike

(Speaking from a LabVIEW perspective, can't say for WindRiver)

I'm not sure if this has anything to do with why [Comatose] is asking, but one thing I have noticed is that if you load several different programs to the cRIO, it will just keep on downloading VIs without removing them, and so if you get enough programs built up, it can use up space fairly fast. Re-imaging the cRIO should solve this; alternatively, I've FTP'd into the cRIO and cleared out obsolete VIs that way.

Hope this helps.

Sorry for not replying sooner but my computer’s Ethernet said its last words a bit ago.

Nevertheless, I was trying to increase the size because we are at 20% memory, and I also had no idea that VI's sent over were still stored, so I'm going to clear them out of it.

Thanks for your help and time guys,

Comatose

Obviously my lesson in efficient typing has not gone well.... I have friends who dropped verbs in their note taking. Others dropped vowels. Personally I just type fast and hope all the words come out ok
