Trailer hitch part of robot size?

We need a some clarification on this one...

Is the trailer hitch included in the 28x38 inches for the robot? The manual says the bumpers and trailer aren't included, but the hitch isn't part of the trailer, and its already an exeption for being able to go past the bumper perimeter.

We are fairly sure it doesn't have to fit in the sizing box, but we're not 100%.

Has anyone else forseen this paradox and/or found an answer?

No citing r11 and r16
The exclusions include the trailer hitch

Re: Trailer hitch part of robot size?

Please note: According to Q&A, the hardware for the hitch is counted in the weight and will be checked to ensure that volume isn't added.

And it does help to have a current version of the Manual around.

Please reread Team Update 1 <R11> A. Exception. It clearly states that the trailer hitch is NOT considered part of the robot and is not included in weight AND volume assessment.

Re: Trailer hitch part of robot size?

But the connecting hardware (bolts, nuts, etc) IS included in the weight of the robot. See http://forums.usfirst.org/showthread.php?t=11238

If you go to the USFIST page that has the rules, you'll see that they are revised whenever a team update requires them to be. Section 8 The Robot is on revision H now. I suggest you keep up on the team updates, and download the latest version of all the rules twice a week (they are updated Tuesday and Friday nights) so you can find the answers to these type questions more easily.

http://usfirst.org/community/frc/content.aspx?id=452

It's a pain...but it might save you some grief if it keeps you from making a mistake due to not having the latest rules.

And you need to monitor the Q&A also, which is a big job.

I have read it several times, including the current version (Rev. H). You will notice that I said nothing about the hitch itself, just the mounting hardware.

Re: Trailer hitch part of robot size?

You're quite right Eric, missed the "hardware" in your statement.

See everyone can miss something if they don't read it more than once.
