Re: 2594 Robot Preview

Yah, in my original design (I did the chasis/drivetrain) I couldn't do bumpers, so what i did was manipulate it so that we had some spots to mount. The exact spots and brackets i'm not so sure about but i am told that it should be fine by a couple team members on the mechanical team. I am trusting them that it does work or else we got a problem i guess huh? I am trusting that they are doing something that can take hits from other 120 pound robots, they are smarter than that, I hope...

Just make sure that <R08-M> is satisfied. (And the GDC says through Q&A that 1/8" plate on standoffs, unbent/untreated, won't work.)

Re: 2594 Robot Preview

KK thx, i will look into that right now just to make sure...

Ok. Good call. Like I said, I'm not personally working on the bumpers, but I will make sure that the people that are know this rule. I did design the chassis and drivetrain so that there was extra room, so it should be ok, but no harm in making sure. Thx again.

How could they say that without knowing the spacing and design of the standoffs? Eric, can you post a link to this specific ruling? It doesn't sound like the GDC to say something like this before an actual inspection of the robot in question.

Re: 2594 Robot Preview

I hope the brushed designs work out well this year (for both our sakes)!

How much distance can you get out of the denso motors for shooting? It seems to me like it would have been preferable to swap your intake and shooter motors so the FP's would be firing balls.

I sure can.

Here's the original question: http://forums.usfirst.org/showthread.php?t=11349

Here's the followup question, where they actually provide guidelines: http://forums.usfirst.org/showthread.php?t=11503

They pretty much said that 1/8" plate on minimum standoffs won't pass, but taking that same plate and altering it for strength, say by making it into a C-channel, will. It's up to the inspectors, yes, but the initial ruling ruled out the standard method that teams might use.

That is beyond sick.

That is perhaps one of the most unique and aesthetically pleasing designs I've ever seen. Good Job!

We were figuring we can do anywhere from three to five feet all the way to fifteen depending on how we decide we want to shoot, we think our objective is to get close, unlike alot of other teams we were watching on youtube that were going twenty+ feet. We see no need to try adn hit a small target across the arena... but hey, teams should know this, how often can a gameplan change when you actually go to regionals and you see taht yours doesn't work adn another one does...

I can't beleive you said this todd. To everyone that read "The Skorpion", todd must be tired because we have picked NASKcorpion, making a pun with our name (NASKCO + scorpion)...

Re: 2594 Robot Preview

I really advise you guys to take a look at all the Bumper threads and read them in detail. The rules are still confusing for a lot of teams. Looking at your frame you are going to need some serious thinking about how you are going to comply with the bumper rules. Good Luck!

Ok, I have just looked at the design that they have for the bumpers to go on, looked through the rule book twice, and it works. No rule violations as far as I can tell by looking through it twice. How the bumpers mount for now though, unfortuantly to all other teams, is currently classified. Sometime next week I will post pics, sorry.
