Limit Number of regionals?

Should FIRST limit the number of regionals any team can attend to help rookie teams attend at least one regional?

The right solution is to increase regional size, increase national size, and/or add more regionals.

Cool limited regionals

While I enjoy watching teams that attend more than 1 regional because they carry thegame to a highher level, I don't think anyone should be left out or on a waiting list because the spot is taken by one of these teams.

On the other hand, since you can't go straight to nationals anymore, if you didn't get in any regional then FIRST is essentially telling you to keep your money and not have a team this year. I don't think anyone just gets the kit, builds and not compete. The fees are all based on your first "event" and then each subsequent event......so if you don't go toan event is the kit free?(ha...not very likely)

Personally, I think that if any limiting is done, FIRST should limit teams to two regionals. A far better solution, however, would be to add/expand regionals. This way, everyone gets to compete, and compete as much as they want to.

A comprosmise

I think that perhaps a good compromise would be to allow teams to register for two regionals on a first-come first-serve basis and then place them on a waiting list should they wish to register for more.

Talking

Let's just recall a few things two:

Last year FIRST held spots specifically for rookies- despite the fact that at some regionals, these spots when unfilled, i would assume that FIRST would do that again- see as how it was already pointed out the the number allowed to register was less than the capacity of last year.

As well- remember that the waiting list does not reflect the number of teams that are being held out of a regional. It is a great likelihood that teams on waiting list for some regionals are already registered for at least one other.

And if there is truly this much demand for competitions, then FIRST should make more- BUT teams have to do their part and not register for 3 or 4 and only cut the check for one.. cause that could leave FIRST lacking enough teams after the fact to constitute holding more regionals..

just some thoughts

My opinion,

In my opinion, I like regionals the way they are now. They are small and just seem special. It is always more fun competing at the regionals. If anything, I would like to see more regionals, that way regionals will not become over crowded and still be the small fun competitions, and also be an indicator of how big and popular FIRST is becoming, rather than the sheer size of nats. (I remember some people were saying how cool it was that nats were so big.) And if there was a limitation put on regionals, I would like to see teams limited to 2 or 3 as the most regionals they can attend.

Just my thoughts,
Mike

Wow... thats close...

I am surprised by the results of this poll. It is almost 50-50 with the no's only slightly behind. I thought it would be more tilted to yes since one of the main objectives is to get MORE teams involved...
