cord reel usage

my team is looking into a way for our turret to go around and, because the motors will not reach all the way around, though about the way a reel works on a vacuum to pull the cord in and out. I was wondering if there was anything that prohibited us from doing that.

we are building it all from scratch with pulleys and a springy material.
