old SMC valve quick question

Sorry my team is kind of confused about this. Can we use the old SMC valve (part number SY3240-5L0Z) on the 2009 robot?

Thanks

Re: old SMC valve quick question

Quote:
<R71> In addition to the items included in the Kit Of Parts, pneumatic system items specifically permitted on 2009 FRC ROBOTS include the following items. All included items must be “off the shelf” pneumatic devices rated by their manufacturers for pressure of at least 125psi,
and used in their original, unaltered condition (except as required for assembly with other components).
[...]
C. Solenoid valves. All such valves must have a maximum 1/8” NPT port diameter, and a maximum Cv of 0.32 (if non-Kit Of Parts valves are used, the team will be required to provide part documentation validating that the valves meet these constraints).
Now, let's look at the allowed materials...
Quote:
<R31> COTS ITEMS that are generally available may be used on the ROBOT. [...]
<R32> COTS ITEMS from ROBOTS entered in previous FIRST competitions or COTS MECHANISMS that are no longer commercially available may be used under the following conditions:
A. The item must be unmodified, and still in its original condition as delivered from the VENDOR, and
B. The item must not be a part custom made for the FIRST competition and provided in the Kit Of Parts for a previous FIRST Robotics Competition (e.g. 2006 FRC transmissions, custom-made motor couplers, custom sensor strips, 2006 IFI CMUcam II modules, etc. are not permitted), and
C. The item must satisfy ALL of the rules associated with materials/parts use for the 2009 FIRST Robotics Competition)
Does the valve violate any of the above-quoted rules? Is there another rule that you think it violates?

Re: old SMC valve quick question

Paul,
They have to be current, available parts to be part of the COTS and pneumatic rules.

Re: old SMC valve quick question

I do believe that it is legal, as I have seen the valve on the SMC site. Would anyone care to confirm?
