Team 237 "TRIBE-bot"

Posted by Jessica Boucher at 03/07/2001 10:23 AM EST

Student on team #237, Sie-H2O-Bots, from Watertown High School and Eastern Awning Systems & The Siemon Company.

As soon as Brandon approves it, the pic of Team 237's changed TRIBE-bot will be in the "Robots" gallery.

Can't wait 'til Nationals!

A note, once Brandon approves the pic-

We do not have 2 sets of wheels. The ones that are darker (aka not the skyway wheels) are the wheels on our scale. The dark vertical post on the left is also part of the scale.

Any other questions, let me know.

All the other robots I know are hacking themselves to bits in order to make weight and what is that I see on your robot? BALLAST! Yes, I think so, aluminum rods about 2 inches in diameter right there in the middle of the machine.

I will leave you alone to feast on your 7 course meal while I slink over the corner and nibble my diet cracker ;-)

Great job on turning around your entire machine in such a short time.

Good luck. See you in FL.

Sorry Joe, but the devil on my left shoulder has finally gotten the best of the angel on my right. At last count, I think that the Bobcat weighed only about 123 Lbs. I also came to the realization the other day that the the Bobcat has fewer motors in total (7 and no pnuematics) than CD6 has on its drive train .

Never the less, CD6 is impressive in concept, and based on the improvement made over the few short days of the regional I'm sure that it will be more than impressive in performance by the time NYC, GLR, and nationals roll around.

Good luck at NYC and GLR. See you in Florida.

P.J.

"Could you have POSSIBLY make it ANY more complicated?"
Tony Norman of Innovation First fame upon seeing CD6

One of our lessons learned this year will almost certainly be to do less. This is one of those lessons that has to be learned over and over again.

Each year we think we are just that much smarter than we were the prior year. At times we are too clever for our own good.

I know for a fact that we should have listened to the advice I gave so passionately to rookie teams at the the Chief Delphi Rookie Camp:

THERE IS NOTHING YOU CAN ENGINEER INTO YOUR MACHINE THAT TRUMPS DRIVE TIME! A SIMPLE MACHINE FINISHED EARLY WILL ALWAYS BEAT AN ENGINEERING MARVEL THAT THE DRIVE TEAM HAS NEVER DRIVEN.

The words burn my eyeballs as I read them.

As a recovering Die-hard Cubs fan, I can say with only mild irony, "Wait 'til next year"

Joe J.

Sorry Joe, we could not find any heavy aluminum so we opted for solid steel " 30 lbs " worth. We painted them chrome for efect, spiffy huh.
Were still under weight but we ran out of ballast so we will just have to suffer with the extra speed.
We were practicing the other night and accidentaly picked up the goal from the side, so if any robot falls over we can pick you up.
We were wondering if we could use our arms as a fork lift and carry the stetcher with a bot on it over the ramp, we shall test that theory in florida.
Eat your hearts out folks the Sie H2o Bots are back in the game......
