Bills Blog: "Talking about trailers"

http://frcdirector.blogspot.com/2009...-trailers.html

Shows what will happen to the trailers of robots that do not show up for a match.

Interesting.

Quote:
Good Afternoon Teams,

What happens if there aren’t six robots on the field during competition? Six trailers remain in play. We’ve created a bogie wheel to allow unattended trailers to remain in play. A third rover wheel is fitted with a bushing and mounted on the trailer tongue held in place with a clip ring (available from any office supply store. If you have a practice trailer, you might want to create a bogie wheel of your own to experience how this allows the trailer to move during competition.

Take a KOP wheel. Add a bushing (should be plans somewhere). Put on trailer tongue. Put your standard office paper-holding ring through where the pin normally goes. Done.

Re: Bills Blog: "Talking about trailers"

I can see teams driving their open chassis area with ball pickup devices into that wheel by accident (of course) & it becoming an entanglement issue, disabling the robot the remainder of the match so they can't move much.

Folks who have that type of system, be careful!!!

Re: Bills Blog: "Talking about trailers"

With the bogey wheel attached as shown, these trailers are very easy to push around on the FRP, and will glide several feet.

Dave Brinza has some video of me pushing one -- I guess it's OK to post that somewhere now, since Bill Miller (Director of FRC, and Emperor-of-all-things-official) has 'published' FIRST's plan for unattended trailers.

I believe in intuition and inspiration. Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited, whereas imagination embraces the entire world, stimulating progress, giving birth to evolution. It is, strictly speaking, a real factor in scientific research.
