what kind of motor/ gear reduction are you guys using on the accumulator? we have a very similar design and we had trouble getting enough torque to start the system.

Erm... I hate to ask this question, but how are you going to add legal bumpers to that robot?

From another thread from the same team's bot:

the robot just needs to have an exterior chassis put on for bumper attachment...

I believe the reductions are a 3 to 1 from the CIM to the front roller/whole conveyor, and a 16:1 for the banebots 545s. In the video you see that there's a jam they get in the very beginning due to the balls coming out too fast and clustering. That'll be fixed by stuttering the hopper rollers to only let out 2 balls at a time, but still keep them together so you don't lose speed from emptying the hopper

Tonight they're going to test with a lot more balls. Also, on Saturday we'll be attending a scrimmage so we'll be able to see exactly how long it takes to empty the hopper. They also need to finish the code mentioned above before they can truly test how fast it is. They're currently running off the computer with clicks since the OI is being finished. So that's another reason why there isn't a definite time.

Stay tuned

Very true. It seems like VERY little room to cover enough of the robot.

Spacers. More or less. It's rather simple, we have a piece of steel supported all the way around by spacers and attach the bumpers to that. We didn't read through the rules thouroughly enough so we diddn't catch the bit about having the bumpers be continualy supported. It's a quick fix, but it works.
