Re: Team 254's 2009 Robot - "Devastator"
I'm going to go ahead and guess it can do around 20-25 balls in about 3 seconds
Good thing we won't have to play you guys or 148 until the championship. |

Re: Team 254's 2009 Robot - "Devastator"
I'm trying to figure out how a bot like this will compare with bots like ours which is a super high power turreted shooter that can do about 4 or 5 balls a second. They can obviously deposit many more at one instant in time but we can shoot for a longer period of time by moving the turret and adjusting the distance.
I think neither power dumpers or shooters in general are better. In order to be a highly successful dumper you need to be able to unload balls much faster than a shooter since scoring opportunities will be less frequent. For a successful shooter you need to be highly adjustable (distance and rotation) and be able to shoot quickly ~3+ balls per second. I completely agree that 148 and 254's bots will be absolutely killer and they definitely have a great chance of dominating, they are more the exception than the norm though. Most dumpers I have seen are slower at expelling balls than our shooter and lack the adjustability to be able to shoot under more circumstances. The key imo seems to be picking either a shooter or power dumper and maximizing it's potential like 254 and 148 have done. I am truly amazed that you have managed to create a relatively simple solution to this game that looks to be truly "devastating" to the opposition. |

Re: Team 254's 2009 Robot - "Devastator"
Wow, our robot looks very similar. For once my thought process of "What Would 254 Do?" actually worked out!
Looks great, I'd like to see just how you're belt system works, how do you manage to pull the balls out of your hopper so quickly without jamming? Is this beast capable of picking up balls as well? Six wheels? Traction control? So many questions still left unanswered... |

Re: Team 254's 2009 Robot - "Devastator"
I saw the robot(probably the practice one) at the scrimmage yesterday, though they never were on the field while we were practicing. Very impressive robot, can't wait to see it at competition, well, unless if we're up against them

Re: Team 254's 2009 Robot - "Devastator"
Its amazing. Our shooter can shoot from up to 26 feet away on a turret though so we can shoot the whole match, while you all are chasing people around. It still looks amazing though.

Re: Team 254's 2009 Robot - "Devastator"
I really didn't mean to turn it into a shooter versus dumper study. I hope you didn't mind Cory. I think this is without a doubt one of the best bots I have seen and probably will see this year. I always am anxious to see the 254/968 bots and this year might actually be my favorite one yet. They just keep getting more refined.
Great job again Cory and the rest of the team!!! |

Re: Team 254's 2009 Robot - "Devastator"
Cory, loving the sick frame, reminds me of our frame that we made last year (and the year before and the year before...). That is one of the coolest bots i've ever seen. Whatz the weight (under 120) and how many balls are gonna be available. I like both forms of scoring but how many balls are really gonna be there to pick up?
Nice Job Poofs/RAWC, Can't wait to play against you at Nationals |
