Re: YOU Predict the Average Match Score of 2009's Week 1 Regionals

Well here goes my estimate.

I would guess that an average of 3 balls will be scored in autonomous in each trailer. This may be a bit low but this is my guess..

So that would be 3X3X2 or 18 points scored during autonomous

During the first 2 weeks we will see human players score more than robots but still not at a great clip... my guess will be 3 balls per HP

so again 3X3X2 18 points... total so far 36 points

Robot scoring.

An average alliance will have at least one robot that can dump or shoot their 7 balls in ....at some point during the teleop..

That adds up to 14 points.... so 36 +14 = 50 points average score.

I do think that in the elims you will see 2 robots scoring and probably 10 balls apiece .... so averages will go up in elims by 26 points to 76.

You will see some robots that can score over 15 balls... but not many.

So a really good alliance with 2 scoring robots will give you 30 extra balls added to the 36 and give you 96 points...

Some teams may also be able to compensate by blocking and doing human scoring by pinning robots in reach of their human players...

******************

For a different approach let's look at total scoring...(without the supercells)

120 balls X 2 =240 points.

That's not many points to share...
At the championships that would be only 40 points per team or 120 per alliance. tha's only 60 balls (obviously)

Two powerhouse teams.... on one alliance... single 12 ball dump each...
if they both can accomplish this twice a match... they will score 48 balls
add the 9 scored in auto...by hp... and we are at 57 balls with NO human scoring...

i predict that controlling the balls... either by collecting and keeping...or collecting and giving to human players... will control the game in Atlanta..
Being able to pick up the balls that are thrown on the field and conserving those that are given at the beginning of the game...will be the decisive factors...

Holding onto balls and recognizing opportunities for taking advantage and keeping it is the way this game will be played at the championships..

Spectacular dumping and shooting will be fun to watch... but in the end.. strategy and thinking will win the matches.

Re: YOU Predict the Average Match Score of 2009's Week 1 Regionals

I think in the qualification rounds you will see a 50-60 avg. maybe a 90-100 point match in good matches with good alliance. In the playoffs i think you will see 70-80 avg in matches and 100+ matches in rare case.

Re: YOU Predict the Average Match Score of 2009's Week 1 Regionals

As usual it will be very interesting to see the ranges of scores for the first week of competition. Im curious because I'm doing scoring for week 2 and I want to see how fast I will need to count

My guesses:
Average: 32
Max: 76

As usual again, I am assuming a huge range of scores as some teams progress along the learning curve faster than others. Maybe many scores in the teens and twenties then moving into the thirtys. But who knows, I might be vastly underestimating teams abilities. I guess we will all find out soon

Re: YOU Predict the Average Match Score of 2009's Week 1 Regionals

My best guess is about 60.

That would be an average of 5 moonrocks in each trailer. Even that number might be a low estimate. I'm betting we'll see at least one match at Midwest, finals included, with a combined match score of over 300.

Since 300 is the max points (120*2+4*15=300), I doubt this

I'm guessing the typical scorer's game will go
  • 120 seconds or so of ease - counting one or two balls every 5 seconds
  • punctuated with 5-second increments of incredible flurries of balls impossible to count
  • followed by an onfield confirmation to see just how good you guessed

There are 8 possible super cells, 4 for each alliance.

Re: YOU Predict the Average Match Score of 2009's Week 1 Regionals

Well, the real competition begins tomorrow. I suppose I should put up my own estimate.

And the average will be...57.5 points per alliance.

I think that the payload specialists can each score at least 5 balls per match, which means at the minimum an alliance should score 30 points, and then the rest will depend on the robots and how much the super cells get used.

My guess is going to have to be 54.65 points per match, give or take .05.

Being that scores will go down as play improves (defense!), I would say the average score of all matches in the first week's Regionals will be 80.

Re: YOU Predict the Average Match Score of 2009's Week 1 Regionals

Midwest Regional Average Elimination Average Alliance Score as of now:
57.50

I don't plan on checking the other regionals, but it looks like 55-60 as an average score.
