DC Inaugural Ball ('09 team social)

While it wasn't as thought out as the VCU team socials at the Virginia Science Museum, it did have a certain aura about it, like subconsciously everyone knew we had to start off the new regional with a bang.

Here are some videos from the karaoke stage:

1699 singing Don't Stop Believin'
2911 singing I Like Big Butts
1793 air guitaring Bohemian Rhapsody
122 singing Time Warp

And don't forget to watch them in high quality!

I joined FIRST and stuck with it. It was nice enough to return the favor.

Hmmm I would guess they were all working on a lack of sleep. O the things it will make you do. You can expect to see some singing from 816 if they have it at the Nationals Social this year.

Re: DC Inaugural Ball ('09 team social)

First competitions are great places to be yourself around a bunch of people who just want to have fun and do there best. Spirit is probably the best part of FIRST

There were a few songs you would always see the whole team on the floor for and man did we get loud.

Cotton Eye Joe always got a circle of people dancing I think this happened 3-4 times

Don't Stop Believin also got everyone up and singing.

The Cha Cha slide, electric slide and YMCA had at least 110 people up and dancing in unison 4 to 5 times

And that's not even talking about any of the techno we had on the jukebox

When it came to spirit the GKC regional was full of it I'll get video up as soon as possible. Here's a hint of what went on http://www.facebook.com/ext/share.ph...=bjPvO&u=XBEwR

Kansas isn't as quiet a little town as people suspect it to be.

Re: DC Inaugural Ball ('09 team social)

I remember someone observing that the meal cost $57.
I commented that it's also like 2000 calories and a year off your life no doubt (Mac n' cheese with toppings like more cheese, bacon bits and sour cream to go with Vitamin Water). Tasty food.
It was nice sitting down and talking to 2912 who was a bit overwhelmed by their first regional experience (all the kids on the team are Ninth graders) but they were also impressed and excited by the whole thing as well. I recommended they try off season events to get further experience like Battle O' Baltimore or Duel on the Delaware. They were unaware about off season event opportunities but said they look into it.

Ed:

Thanks for informing the DC rookies about off-seasons. We will be sure to have their team contacts on our distribution list for the Duel on the Delaware event. I would encourage sponsors of other off-season events to connect up with the DC rookies also.

Back to the social - in addition to the mac & cheese, I heard the rolls were good. They ran out before some of us could get to them. After a hard day of FIRST competition, we would eat almost anything. And who could resist the ambiance of FIRST karaoke in the background!

I know DC was not planning to have a team social originally. Thanks to the organizers for putting something together to allow teams to mix and relax a bit.

Re: DC Inaugural Ball ('09 team social)

Food was much, much better that the stuff we had to pay in the convention center. Even if it was cheese covered in cheese and bacon.

Some of us were going to do "make a man out of you" but had to leave for the metro.
But at least we were able to play a massive game of cards with about five other teams.

The Senior Mentor in DC is already working on communicating with all the DC teams about the off-season opportunities. PM me if you want her email.
