267 Looking for kissin' cousins! Off Ramp Balancers Reply!

Posted by James Jones at 03/19/2001 1:59 PM EST

Engineer on team #267, The Demolition Squad, from North Broward & St Andrews and Motorola.

What teams can balance the goals off the ramp and go to the endzone? ( I know a few: 343, 312 who else? )

What teams pick the goal off the ground to put it on? ( I know one at Kennedy, forgot their number, who else? )

177 can do this.

157 can pick the goal up and place it on the goal

190 can do one..

can do the other half of people like 177 & 236 (push up one from the other side while someone holds the other or lifts onto it..)

better yet.. anyone who can simply pull/tow two goals, we can push them up onto the ramp, and then lift the ramp to balance.. so anyone who can just simply control two on flat ground we can help make into a 2 goal balancer

Team 271 can do it. We can push the goal onto the ramp with our telescoping arm, and balance it that way.

My team, 166, can balance one goal from off the bridge and make it into the endzone fairly fast.

I've seen a lot of big ball placers that use a big gripper to place a ball on top of a goal, and that same arm can hold the goals on the vertial PVC pipes, and push it onto the bridge into a balanced position...

Two robots I've seen doing it but not mentioned by other people:

Team 56 and 60

on theory, 2 goals...

However, it is extremely hard to control the goals from falling over to the other side...

That's why it take Heatwave and Metal in motion to do it in KSC.

Usually what ended up happening, is the two goals is being setup in front of those big arm robots, and there are usually a little trouble lining up the two goals for the bridge.

Then, it take a lot of traction to push two goals up the bridge, and sometimes when there aren't enough traction, the wheels keep spinning on the carpet doing nothing. Then it take couple of backing up to build up the momentum, spending all those effort until suddenly the goals went too far and fall on the other side of the bridge.

At WMR, I watched Beatty do it, I never saw them fail, never saw them struggle, or spin the wheels, near perfection...

495 495 495! It's all us. We balance with a manipulator. It lifts the bridgedrops the bridge, and holds the bridge down on our side. We are incredibly fast too (at balancing). We can balance in less than 10 seconds. That includes some time in case there is a problem. We also traverse the bridge.

Team 358 Festo/Hauppauge Titans, have the ability to balance a goal from off the ramp. We did this several times at the Long Island Regional. Unfortunately our strategy during the finals did not make use of our balancing skill. We got knocked out in the semi’s and finished in fourth place, but the lessons learned will be applied at the Nationals!!

Check out our practice video, and good luck to all!!
