Re: Team 1332! Needs Help to get to Atlanta!!!

I know most teams are strapped for cash at the moment right now. Looking for other teams to donate their money donated to you is not the best idea. Its kind of like regifting a gift. XXXX sponsor gave it to them for them to give it to you. I don't think XXXX intended for that, or would like it very much if they did it. Your best bet to getting extra funds is talk to your current sponsors. If they all could pitch another $500 or something, anything, then you could go from there.

You could also do some kind of fundraising at your school. I don't know the exact figures but if your team figures out how much the total cost per person for traveling would be, then each person could fundraise/pay that amount. If you don't even have close to enough for just the registration, then you might want to take a pass.

One thing you might look into is staying with families of some Atlanta Teams. You may find some awesome GP Teams in the Atlanta area that could help you. I would start a thread with this request. You'll be amazed at how giving teams will be and you'll also have a nice exchange experience.

I will PM back with some ideas for help after I check some of my sources. Best of luck getting it together. You were amazing alliance partners.

See if you can get your school to loan you the money. The key word being loan. I know our school has done this for us once, and we are not exactly a rich school.

Re: Team 1332! Needs Help to get to Atlanta!!!

In 2006, MORT and Da Bears (247) helped 1251 the tech Tigers get to Atlanta through t-shirt sales that read the name of our alliance from Palmetto. It was a really cool team building event and was just an awesome thing to do for one of our favorite teams. the shirts read at the top "I helped 1251 go to Atlanta" and "MORT, Tigers, and Bears oh my!"

Simple fundraisers like this go a long way.

Re: Team 1332! Needs Help to get to Atlanta!!!

I feel somewhat obligated to say this but if you can't afford it you don't have to go. While the championship is a wonderful experience and I hope that every team has the opportunity to go at some point I don't think it is worth bankrupting your team for it, or going into debit.

The recommendation that I always tell teams is decide early on (aug or sept) if you think you want to go, regardless if you have qualified yet and start raising funds for it. If you do make it your budget is set, if you don't make it then most of your fundraising is done for next year.

I know that your whole team really wants to go, but just because you wind doesn't mean you are REQUIRED to go, Good Luck in whatever you choose to do...... $.02

Can you elaborate a bit more on the details of your situation? Do you have any money saved up. 10%, 20%, 50%? Are you willing to send a portion of your team? Colorado would be a long and expensive car pool.

We actually travel with another local team and split the bus fare between the two teams. You may want to reach out to teams that would be a short drive, and hitch a ride on their bus. Think of the adventure in that... If you can get cheap flights to Chicago or Detroit, there are a ton of teams going to Atalanta from those two regions and both are major airport hubs.

As far as hotel expenses once you get there? I know some teams have camped in order to save money. This is a bit of a gamble sometimes Atlanta is 80 that time of year. Other times it is cold and rainy.

On our team, the students have to pay for their travel expenses to Atlanta. many others do a lot of different things, but that is what our students do. They are allowed to subsidize their expenses via fund-raisers and what not, but they each have to earn or pay their way.

One team mentioned T-shirts. The highest profit on this usually requires the highest investment. There are also some websites out their where you can design and buy a t-shirt, and then post your design for sale. You will make $5-10 per shirt on this (it may take too long for them to process the orders and have a check ready for Atlanta).

Lastly, if families are going to donate, have the parents check at work for a matching program. Many companies will match gifts to educational institutions. This is a good way of doubling a donation.

Re: Team 1332! Needs Help to get to Atlanta!!!

All I have to say is try to raise the money as a hard as you can because you will regret it if you don't. I missed out on a chance for Atlanta my senior year in high school because we as a team didn't think we could raise the money in time, so we didn't attempt to.
