the need to beat 710
Posted by Ken Leung at 03/26/2001 6:36 AM EST
Student on team #192, Gunn Robotics Team, from Henry M. Gunn Senior High School. After team 71 scored the highest score in the competition through out the whole season, I saw lots of message about how great that is. Come on, people¡K Well, don¡¦t get me wrong. I watched that match twice, and I simply love the teamwork involved in that match. It is amazing. But then after seeing all those messages, the first thing came to my mind wasn¡¦t to post another message to congratulate them for such a high score, but different ways of beating that score¡K Right now, I really hope to gather ideas about how to beat that score of 710, so that we all won¡¦t feel so helpless when going to National, thinking there is no way of winning anymore¡K Here is what I¡¦ve come up with so far: 1. A robot that balance on the bridge really well, second robot that limbo & score a big balls on a goal while balanced, third robot that pick up big balls & and a long reach that can score it on the further balanced goal, and finally a limbo bot that handle a goal really well. So the match start, the two limbo bot go across the field under the bar, while the third robot go through the bridge. The balancer grabs the near goal and human players get It loaded up with small balls. The two big balls handler then each get a small ball into the far goal. The other limbo bot then grab the far goal and get it to the balancer, and head back into the end zone. Mean while, the two bots on the other side of the field get two big balls setup for scoring. The balancer spins around so the second goal will be filled up with smalls again, and head for balancing. Finally, as the two goals are balanced, the two big ball placer scores the two big balls, and head for end zone. All these done under a minute. 2. A balancer, second robot a limbo bot that score big balls quickly, third robot that handle the stretcher really well and manipulate the bridge, and finally a light robot that sits on the stretcher. The match start, the limbo bot go to the other side and score a big ball. The third robot grab the stretcher and go through the bridge, then reset the bridge after spinning around and score the stretcher. The balancer goes through the bridge with a fully loaded goal (12 small balls) to the other side. Hopefully the limbo bot will be done scoring a big ball and have a second big ball ready to be scored. The balancer grab the far goal, and the limbo bot score the second big ball. Finally, the two goals get balanced. All these done under a minute. Both of the cases 72 base point X 4 for two goals and X 2.5 for under a minute, receiving a score of 720¡K Let¡¦s hope team 71 doesn¡¦t see this message until after National¡K it¡¦s going to ruin the surprise. |
