Smile 2009 MI Cass Tech

well i have'nt seen any post started yet so i will start one. The cass tech event was alot of fun and there was alot of tough competition. I first want to put a HUGE shout out to team 1250 THE GATORBOTS they helped out our rookie team with so much, and there was not one time we went for help and someone couldn't come and they also came and checked up on us and let even use the equipment in there pit even when they were gone so congrats on the gracious proffesionalism award.

also congrats to teams 67, 217, and3098 for forming a unbeatable alliance and i wish them the best of luck at there next district event they go to. and i also wish teams 1250,469, and 1941 for putting up a good fight. and good luck to them and all of the teams at there next district event.

Re: 2009 MI Cass Tech

A few of us from 910 went to the Star Trek Exhibition at the science center and then stopped by Cass Tech to catch the Finals. I was really impressed by the tenacity of 1250, 469, and 1941. They did not at all go quietly into that good night. Nice

Congrats to 67, 217, and 3098 on the win. We'll be seeing both 67 and 217 at Troy so it was nice to get a sneak peak of what to expect, I only wish we had managed to get there a bit sooner.

Re: 2009 MI Cass Tech

I just stopped by for an hour. Checked out the bots in the pits, and the venue. The arena seemed pretty cool. The bleachers were quite tall and made it feel a bit like a gladiator pit. Both sides of the field had tall bleachers, so it is a different feel/set up from Detroit (one huge set of bleachers, and then 4 rows (mostly blocked off for VIPS) on the other side. I also thought the corridor from the field to the pits gives it a very Gladiator feel.

Re: 2009 MI Cass Tech

Team 67 thanks 217 and 3098 for being FANTASTIC alliance partners....we've been waiting a looooong time to be teamed up with the ThunderChickens. The Captains 3098 were an amazing rookie team, and you impressed all of us! Congratulations to 1250,469, and 1941! You guys were a great alliance and we were honored to compete with you, and are looking forward to doing so in the future.

I really enjoyed the way this regional was run...The smaller size allowed a quick turn-around for matches (sometimes a good thing, but sometimes made it difficult for the scouters). The Tenacious Technicians are a really friendly and enthusiastic team, and I can see lots of success in their future. Thank you to all of the volunteers that allowed this event to run smoothly. You are greatly appreciated!

Re: 2009 MI Cass Tech

Congrats to 67, 217, and 3098. You know you're at a great event when there are 4 world championships and 8 einstein appearances on the field in finals. Although the number one alliance was unbeatable, 469, 1250, and 1941 gave them a good run for their money. It was great to see our sister team 1941 finally make an appearance to the finals even if it meant beating our own team badly in the third match.

Like most teams, 503 had a great weekend at Cass Tech. Thanks to 1701 for picking us and 2851 to join them in our semi-final run. We had a great time working with and learning from your teams. Cass Tech and 2673, you guys did a great job hosting. It was great how you guys involved your school into the competition, hopefully teams were inspired by you and wanting to host their own district next year, we knew we were. It didn't feel like we weren't in our normal regionals with Cass Tech's great bleachers, legendary teams, and FIRST celebrities such as John Abele, Dave Verbrugge, Jim Zondag, and Andy Baker in attendance just to name a few. Thanks to Gail Alpert, Pam Williamson, Mr. Castaing, and the rest of the FIRST in Michigan leadership. Your behind-the-scenes work is tremendous and our team as well as others are tremendously grateful.

Also, congrats to team 280 for the district chairman's award. Ever since we nearly won GLR together in 2004 with the last second let-go of the bar, we have been waiting to win with you guys but have never been lucky enough to have the chance. You guys are a great FIRST team and the frogs wish you the best of the luck as you compete for the state chairman's award next month.

Re: 2009 MI Cass Tech

As both a 1941 and 503 mentor, I was immensely proud and profoundly conflicted when both teams faced off in the semi-finals of this year's Cass Tech District competition.

I found myself cheering for both alliances at once, something I found will lead to very strained vocal cords the next day!

I still can't believe I saw what I saw. Here is a little known fact, four teams built and tested in 503's facility this year, 1941, 3115, 2832, and of course 503. Of those four, three of them were at Cass Tech and three of them made the elimination rounds. 503 is proud to be associated with that level of success.

Watching 1250, 469, and 1941 compete with 67, 217, and 3098 was an amazing sight. 67 and 217's machines inspire me year in and year out, so when they teamed up I fully expected them to steamroll their competition. Although they formed a tremendous alliance, I think a wonderful aspect of this years game is that everyone had a shot at winning. If one ball had fallen differently here or there, the results could've changed. That being said, when I saw the Thunderchickens load a supercell into their robot at the end of the final match, I knew our previously close match was one accurate shot from being over. Congratulations on excellent strategy and even more excellent execution, the drivers never lost their cool.

Re: 2009 MI Cass Tech

FIRST off, I would like to thank all the teams at Cass Tech for showing my rookies how an event is suppose to be. The enthusiasm of the vets and determination of the other rookie teams inspired us.

Would also like to thank 1701 and 503 for choosing us to complete our alliance. It was great competing with an established team like Frog Force and a power house like 1701 (have to point out their 139 points during seeding matches). Crevolution came into the competition just hoping to keep up and we found ourselves in the elimination rounds with two great teams, truly psyched.

And for all my Crevolutionist reading this couldn’t be prouder on being deemed Rookie All Star

Re: 2009 MI Cass Tech

It was really an incredible event. I'd like to start off by giving a huge thank you to everyone at Cass Tech HS who helped to put this on. It was an absolutely fantastic venue with a slew of great Cass people helping out all the FIRST people. The band was awesome to have, the sound system was great, the pits were spacious, and the expansive seating was well appreciated by all in attendance.

Congratulations to 280 on Chairman's, as well as 67/217/3098 for pulling out an impressive finish. 469/1250/1941 you were a crazy alliance and made an unbelievably intense finals (a 2 point difference!!). I'd been watching the two alliances make their ways through the elims and I knew it was going to be an exciting 2-3 final matches. So many diverse robot designs represented in the finals (rolling power dumper, helical turreted shooter, a turreted shooter with a crazy hopper system, and a "traditional" power dumper).

Also a personal 'grats to the Chickens for the spirit award, and a personal high five to HOT for their equally unwavering spirit. You two spearheaded the effort to make this MI district event feel every bit as heart-pounding and exciting as a "real" regional, and by the time we got around to the end of the elims the house was rockin harder than I've felt a FIRST event rock in a long time (barring, say, Atlanta).
