Re: FIRST Robots: Behind the Design - Lunacy

Cephatron did for this year a little book contenting all informations about our robot.

We gave this book for the judges and for some teams in LA regional.
At the moment, I haven't it in .pdf, but I'm trying to contact the responsable by your edition in order to achieve an .pdf file of it.

I took a picture of the book and as soon as possible I will post all content.

The pic is attached!

Re: FIRST Robots: Behind the Design - Lunacy

I have tons of time, have written with SERVO Magazine (and have contacts in there still!) and know how to put up a website. We could organize a team and start the Behind The Design project all up again, eBook style (or maybe even write summaries for an article or two in SERVO Magazine).

Your magazine comments lead me to this. I think this could work best for a magazine to pick up the publication. Every month there would be a FIRST Robot featured, with a write up similar to the way the book was done. For the magazine, you would have a bunch of FIRSTers subscribing to see who the next robot would be, and for FIRST it would be promoting the program to technical professionals that receive the magazine. Seems like a win win to me.

The question is, which magazine would be best?

SERVO has done a few articles on FIRST robots.. back after the 07 championship I believe they did a feature article on 190? Or one of the championship teams that year. Robot is also a good magazine.. but it only comes out bi-monthly. Personally I like SERVO more and think there is a bigger base there.

Team 79 would be happy to tell about our robot if we can get something worked out.

That sounds like a great idea. I'd guess Robot or SERVO would be a good start.

Who knows, maybe if Robot starts getting enough material they can switch to a monthly publication?

Re: FIRST Robots: Behind the Design - Lunacy

There's always the possibility to look into print-to-order services, like Lulu or Xlibris. I'm not very familiar with them, but if a couple people could design a book and get all the teams involved, those who are interested could purchase it online. No idea on things like prices, though. Also, any money made could be donated.

I think that, the most important at the moment would be the effort of each team in contribute with their content's robot.
Would be nice if we build an model of how each team should post your content?

Re: FIRST Robots: Behind the Design - Lunacy

I would definitely like to help out in this project. What if we had an online article featuring a robot every week? We could have our own place online that would serve as a hub for information regarding team robots. I would gladly help in purchasing web space and help develop an online community for showcasing robots and the latest in FIRST technology. What do you guys think?
