Re: Lonestar...day 1....

Teams 148, 118, 2587, 1477,704 have pretty good chances of being in the top 10 spots, but we'll see.

Re: Lonestar...day 1....

Well, after day 1 the power houses clearly seemed to be 148, 704, 418, and team 118, but now we see the potential of some other teams. The teams that jumped out to me through the matches was team 231 high voltage and also team 624 Kryptonite along with the teams stated above. I thing clearly proven throughout today's matches was that any robot can possibly be stopped(cough 148).

Re: Lonestar...day 1....

I am a fan of the rookie Gatorzilla from Dickinson: Team 2936. In any case, the level of play at this regional, even when 1/3 of the field are rookies, is astounding. I can't wait to see more tomorrow.

Re: Lonestar...day 1....

The robots are great this weekend! Some bots of the top of my head are 118, 1477, 148, 231, and 704. Shockingly, there is a rookie at the top (3028), so the alliance pairings could get interesting!

One thing I thought was cool was how much 148 helped with other robots, they always seemed to be helping someone wherever I looked. 118 also did a pretty good job of that. Another thing that was pretty cool was sending rookie teams our programmer, that felt pretty good and everyone was happy about it.

I was amazed at some of the teamwork and GP exhibited, and some exemplary teams would definitely be 418, 2468, 231, 148, and 1801. They were all a pleasure to play with/against.

Tomorrow looks to be an awesome day for everyone, so good luck to everyone at LSR!!!

Re: Lonestar...day 1....day 3

What is going to make alliance pairings interesting today is the depth of veteran teams that are not in the top 8 - 12 spots. This is due to the greater number of quality robots/teams making match parity a reality. Some veterans are getting snake bit in a match or two due to rookie HP mistakes. 499 Toltechs have more working on their robot than a week ago in New Orleans when they went 7 and 4 in qualifiers and became the #3 alliance caption. They could have a record of 3 and 2 but even after coaching the rookies on their alliance they have lost matches twice to HP tossing super cells early for 40 penalty points and taking away wins.

So scouting and alliance pairing will really depend upon the alliance captian doing their homework and not just picking the next highest seeded team. Lots of quality teams to pick and one needs to look for creating balance and strength in the alliance. The only down side is that many quality robots and teams will be watching from the stands.

This will only become more of a competitive regional as the 20 plus rookie teams gain experience and the veterans have more time in the off season to work them. Best solution is to eventually have a super regional in Houston with 80 plus teams competing in two divisions so teams get more plays and more quality teams are in the elimination rounds.
