Re: 2009 West Michigan Regional

1918 had a great time at WMD. Thanks again to 216 for picking us and 1254 for the great effort. You guys were awesome. Great job 503, 85, and 2188. Thanks also to GVSU, all the folks who put this together, the volunteers that made it hum, the judges, and all the teams - especially 904. This is our first victory and we will never forget all your kind words of encouragement. FIRST is a wonderful community and we are honored to be involved in it.

We are amazed at how the level of competition has increased over the course of the season. West Michigan has always been one of the best competitions in the country and this was no exception. It was our third event, so we had seen most of these teams before. Alliance strategy came into play so much more than at the beginning of the season. Defense tactics have gotten so much tougher and targets are a lot harder to come by.

We hardly recognized some of the robots because they had been modified and improved so much. "Continuous Improvement" is another important concept in the "real world" that these kids learn in FIRST. The new MI format really gives us all a chance to develop our machines and adapt our tactics and strategy. It would be interesting to gage how the Michigan teams do in Atlanta - to see if the increased playing time makes a measurable difference.

We look forward to State. Hope to see you all next week!

Re: 2009 West Michigan Regional

Congratulations 216 , 1918 , 1254
that was a tough final, 216 was fantastic , 1918 turned our trailer into a snow cone and 1254 well ...that was some out standing driving.
We had a great Time,
Thank you 503 for selecting us. And with 2188 we made a great team,
We gave it our all and had a great run.

Thanks Tim, B.O.B. still has one of the best robots out there and can make an empty trailer over flow with almost one dump. Your autonomous mode, drivers and complete robot design impressed a lot of people. Congrats on the Finalist award as well as Johnson & Johnson Gracious Professionalism Award.

Thank you all for making our first win ever a special one. We made the semi's at Traverse City, but the excitement of having the whole place errupt in the finals was amazing. The competition was outstanding. The whole afternoon seems like a dream. It just shows us that there is more to a robot or a team than the rankings. We were 36 of 38 at TC and 30 of 39 at WMich going into selections.

A personal thank you to B.O.B., who 7 years ago came to our school to show us what FIRST Robotics was all about. In the 6 years since, we have become hooked.

Hope we can go to State.

WMR was probably my favorite venue. It was a lot of fun, and all the teams were great. Great job 85, 503, & 2188. I can't wait to see everyone at State!!!

Re: 2009 West Michigan Regional

West Michigan was my 2nd favorite. Traverse City had a better venue. They had more seats and the seats had backs.

Bob, you guys did a good job.
