Sponsors!

Student on team #166, Techno Insanity, from Merrimack High School and Texas Instruments.

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could help me out, my team is losing sponsorship for next year because of the lack of interest in the engineers who work at TI. Our team had a tough year this year and ended up at nationals sans engineers. We made it through fine, with the help of team 151, many thanks to you guys!, but next year we are hoping to find a steady sponsor. If anyone could send me some ideas on how to go about doing this it would be much appreciated. Also if anyone knows engineers in the Merrimack, NH area who are willing to help us out, send them my way! We desperatly need help! Thank you so much!

I've been wanting to move to NH for years now. If I could only find a good job up there, I'd gladly join your team.

On a more useful note, try going to your local chamber of commerce and getting a list of all the local corporations. Also, try recruiting people at a local supermarket or some other kind of team fundraiser. Maybe there is even an amateur robotics group with a member or two in your area. I have to imagine there are at least a handful of engineers who would LOVE to be involved in this, especially with the popularity of Battle Bots and Robotica.

Don't confine yourself to engineers or even a particular kind of engineer. A civil/structural firm might love to get their teeth into a different sort of challenge. One where they won't get sued if they make a mistake.

One of our most faithful sponsors is a machine shop. Team 60 from Kingman also recieves heavy duty help from a machine shop. Also check out dealers or distributors for gears and other machine building equipment. One team in LA got the list of companies that were supplying parts for the kits and hit up every one in the LA area. They also hit the local distributors. Eventually they got a sponsor.

For technical help don't overlook people in the community. While I'm a mechanical engineer for the team, what I do also depends on the wiring done by students under direction of a couple of electricians. Since the electricians came on board we haven't had a failure in competition due to loose wires. Proplerly crimping wires is an art.

The important thing is to find people who do things to help you. The local model airplane club might be a good bet too.
