Scouting on Galileo 2009

Hi Galileo! Some of the other divisions are working on methods to share their scouting data or create joint systems that are accessible to all of the teams. I think this would be something great for Galileo to do, especially for smaller/rookie teams who might not be able to sustain an entire scouting system themselves. Does anyone want to contribute?

Re: Scouting on Galileo 2009

Team 1676 will have Scouting on Galileo covered. It will be available in the dome over 2.4Ghz Wi-Fi and online on the internet in the pits (we're bringing cell cards) and will be easily accessible via the Autodesk Internet Cafe. Anyone who has gone to the NJ or Palmetto Regionals knows that we can and will get it done for the betterment of everyone!!

We have a web-based scouting program, that we wrote, and maintain at the event. While in the Georgia Dome we have a 2.4 Ghz (Non-Interfering) WiFi network that any and all teams can access to see up to the minute match scouting (and pit scouting) information. All you need is a cell phone or laptop to access it. If you need any more info (like specifics) please shoot me a PM or email.

It may be worth noting that WiFi use in the 2.4 and 5 GHz band are not allowed (Team updates 12, 13). So basically you can't use 802.11 unless it's 802.11y in which case I hope you have a license for it.

We always bring cat5e if they ask us to turn off the wireless broadcast ;-) ... most teams still had their own wireless networks at the regionals we went to, and it never caused a problem.

Re: Scouting on Galileo 2009

It is important to note that this does not provide any access to Internet; it is only leading to a local server containing the scouting info.

This makes absolutely no difference whatsoever. How does the fact that you don't connect to the internet make it any different? You're still broadcasting in a band and probably with a communications protocol which you're not supposed to use. Yes, bring ethernet cables, because I believe we have seen people be asked to remove their wireless access point.

We were actually told at the Boilermaker Regional that they believed that the network we had was causing distortion (completely ignoring any and all existing networks that are always there). Just don't rely on it because it is against the rules and it is the Championship.
