Hoosier Havoc 2 - Indiana Robotics Invitational: May 5th

Posted by Andy Baker at 04/12/2001 3:05 PM EST

Engineer on team #45, TechnoKats, from Kokomo High School and Delphi Automotive Systems.

On May 5th, Delphi Automotive Systems/Kokomo School's TechnoKats (Team 45), will be hosting the 2nd Annual IRI (Indiana Robotics Invitational) also known as "Hoosier Havoc".

Initially, we invited all of the teams within a 3 hour drive from Kokomo, to give them a head start on the rest of the FIRST teams (yes, we were giving preferrential treatment to our neighbors).

Now, the competition is open to anyone! In order to reserve your spot, you gotta do two things:

1. Register on-line at this address: http://www.technokats.org/iri.html

2. Send a $200 check to:

Tim Railey–IRI Entry
KACC
2415 S Berkley Road
Kokomo, IN 46902

We will be capping the competition at 30 teams. So far, we have 15 teams who have completed our on-line registration. All 10 Indiana teams are expected to attend... and yes, your team can have another shot at beating Team Hammond - 71... they will be there, in full force. Heck, last year, they brought half of north-west Indiana to win the "people's choice award".

The other teams who are planning to attend are:
33, 45, 65, 135, 144, 221, 234, 240, 288, 292, 393, 447, 461, 535, 681

Holy cow!... there's some darn good teams in that group!

This competition will take place at the Memorial Gym in downtown Kokomo Indiana and it is a one day event. For those teams who will be spending the night, we will be having a cookout and party the night before (Friday, May 4th) at the lovely "Delco Park". Also, we have worked out a decent deal with a local hotel. It's $59 per night at this address:

Signature Inn
4021 S. Lafountain
Kokomo IN. 46902
(765)455.1000

Just say that you're with the Indiana Robotics Invitational or "Hoosier Havoc".

We're going to have a slew of judges and awards... even the Mayor of Kokomo will be there!

About the competition...
We will be playing in the huge Kokomo Memorial Gym, which seats 6,000. All of the pits will be on the gym floor, surrounding the playing field. We will try to have as many Q matches as possible, and run the finals with 4 alliances (just like a regional). Although we were tempted to change the game, it will be the same as we played within the FIRST rules... but of course, no inspection or weigh-in.

We will have excellent food and a fun time... c'mon down to Kokomo!

For more information please contact: Tim Railey or Andy Baker on the TechnoKats website: www.technokats.org

OR... Email Tim at trailey@kokomo.k12.in.us or Andy at andrew.r.baker@delphiauto.com

Take care,
Andy B.
