How-To Scouting Program
How are you guys making you scouting programs? are you using databases? which language? I'm interested in making one for our team, but I do not really know where to start, is there a link that you can provide or give me a sample of code? Thanks!

Re: How-To Scouting Program
Search the forums first (or the CD-Media section), there are plenty of people that have posted scouting programs and databases.

Re: How-To Scouting Program
We use a paper system to actual scout with. Each team has a sheet with room to scout 8 matches. The system requires 7-8 people most of the time.
One person takes care of the sheets and is responsible for getting the correct sheets out to the scouters each match. 6 people scout the matches. Finally, there is one person to take the sheets and enter them into the computer. We use excel to keep track of all of our information. Each match gets recorded on its own line. Each team should have a line of data for each of their matches when everything is said and done. If you play with excel, you'll find its not terribly difficult to turn these lines of data into compiled and organized data. So, the sheets go out to the scouters. The scouters watch the match, record the data, and then hand the sheets to the data recording person. That person enters the 6 lines of data (one for each robot) and then hands the sheets back to the manager who puts them back into the stack in the right location. I tip: scout with other teams. 4 scouters is a lot easier to provide than 8. Since all the data is going into the computer as the matches are happening, the data can easily be distributed on Friday night to all the teams participating... That is, assuming the team with the scouting data doesn't get lost on the way back from the team social. ![]() |

Re: How-To Scouting Program
Team 1676 uses a local-network based "intranet" system for its scouting. One of the team members programmed it in PHP. Each student has their own laptop (which is given to them by the school district) that they access it on. Data is entered into a form (which, conviently this year, is not hard coded- all it takes is column headers and entry "type"), which they submit to the database at the end of the match. This database is searchable for up to 3 teams at a time, meaning that in addition to our strategy sheets, our drive team has statistics sheets on our alliance and on the opposing alliance. We've found this system to be very effective, and are getting very welll known for it- we distribute all our raw data to any team that wants it. If you're interesting in hearing more details about the system, PM me and I'd be happy to tell you more about it.

Re: How-To Scouting Program
one of our members found a good execl scouting program on Chief Delphi. We checked it out but it we did not have enough time to actually implement it into our scouting system this year. But it looks really nice. It uses Excel 2007 and it has a lot of macros. It isn't totaly wicked-burning-awsome, but it seems that it would work really nice and get the job done. A lot of work definitely went into making it. (A member of a team made it and posted it here somewhere)
