Re: How-To Scouting Program

We use a paper system to actual scout with. Each team has a sheet with room to scout 8 matches. The system requires 7-8 people most of the time.

One person takes care of the sheets and is responsible for getting the correct sheets out to the scouters each match.

6 people scout the matches.

Finally, there is one person to take the sheets and enter them into the computer. We use excel to keep track of all of our information. Each match gets recorded on its own line. Each team should have a line of data for each of their matches when everything is said and done. If you play with excel, you'll find its not terribly difficult to turn these lines of data into compiled and organized data.

So, the sheets go out to the scouters. The scouters watch the match, record the data, and then hand the sheets to the data recording person. That person enters the 6 lines of data (one for each robot) and then hands the sheets back to the manager who puts them back into the stack in the right location.

I tip: scout with other teams. 4 scouters is a lot easier to provide than 8. Since all the data is going into the computer as the matches are happening, the data can easily be distributed on Friday night to all the teams participating... That is, assuming the team with the scouting data doesn't get lost on the way back from the team social.
