Qualified teams that did not choose to attend Atlanta

While looking at the FiM final standings, I noticed that 7 of the 18 teams that qualified did not choose to attend Atlanta. At first I thought this might be because of the quick turnaround, so I looked at the Minnesota regionals. I found that for each of the Minnesota regionals, every team that qualified did attend Atlanta.

Here are the teams that qualified through FiM that did not choose to attend Atlanta:

Code:
FiM Rank Team # Atlanta Nominee Rank
14 910 9
17 2620 12
18 2188 13
19 326 14
24 818 16
25 66 17
26 703 18
I know 910 has said publicly that the didn't have the money to go, nor did they have the urgency to go (no seniors).

As part of the pilot process, has anyone (or will anyone) follow up with those teams to see why they chose not to attend Atlanta? I think that might say a lot about how the FiM model worked.

I don't think you can use the Minnesota regionals as comparison for "quick turnaround means these teams chose not to go". The qualifying teams from 10,000 Lakes were 2826, (2826), 1714, 2470, 2500, and 1986. Only 2470, 2500, and 1986 were at the time not registered for Atlanta.

Actually... you can. To a point.

Guess what events were on Week 6? 10,000 Lakes, North Star, and MSC. You can't use Week 5 events, because they had a little more time. Week 6 events had to say, "We're going" and actually go within a couple of days.

A better comparison: Percentage of initial qualifiers that went, with "already registered" teams not included. For the MN events, that's 100%. For FiM, I'd have to crunch some numbers to give you an answer.

Re: Qualified teams that did not choose to attend Atlanta

Team 703 had made the decision not to attend the Championship event even before this season started. Our decision was financial and political based on the situation at our main sponsor (Delphi Steering).

Re: Qualified teams that did not choose to attend Atlanta

We (Team 326) were in a situtation were our team had no money at all. We had parents help pay our way to the MSC, unless we wouldn't have gone there either.

We lost our main sponser GM in September of last year and we just never had the time we want to get all the money together. Trust me if we had the money we were going.

Re: Qualified teams that did not choose to attend Atlanta

2620 lacked the time or the money
it was sad but we had to say no
