Go to Post It doesn't matter if students get inspiration from planning to creating to manufacturing to purchasing to watching to engineers creating the parts etc etc etc. As long as students are getting Inspired, FIRST is doing it's mission. - David Kelly [more]

Re: No Way That's Gonna Happen!

Instead of building one large robot... have a full colony! FIRST can go small-scale. Instead of driving the robots individually, the humans would send commands a la Overdrive. The objective might be to, say, build the highest tower with small bricks and knock your opponents' down. Robotermites, unite!

WOW, what a cool idea.

How about a game where the cRIO isn't allowed to move (re:Base station) but the robot is allowed to detatch smaller robots (er ... Robotermites?!?) to perform the tasks while being controlled wirelessly from the cRIOs internal network.

The stacking part has already been done .... sort of. It was in 2003 and called "Stack Attack". In my not so humble opinion, it was not one of FIRST's better games. Stacking was difficult, knocking down stacks was easy, so most teams took the easy way.

Re: No Way That's Gonna Happen!

i say, MUCH BIGGER (100feet square or circle, or triangle or odd shaped MINIMUM) and 10 teams on the field at time, with 2-team alliances (5 alliances per match)

plus, make the field have UNPREDICTABLE obstacles, and, since more teams are on at a time, you can run much longer matches, 10 minutes on one battery anyone? (we need to go LiIon as soon as it's cheep enough...)

i also liked the previously mentioned idea of botcams being the only visual contact (mabe more than one, or good gimbles... coupled with a mechanum, you could have the bot drive whatever way the camera faces...)

robots deploying smaller minions would also be fun... but tricky...

NON SPHERICAL GAME PIECES + Multiple different game pieces on the field...

water game's already been done by another comp, so not too much af a point to it...

also, NON FLAT SURFACE...

methinks Dave reads this thread... n the first page, someone suggested ice, this year, we got pretty close...
