Kokomo-Don't Miss It

Posted by Bill Beatty at 04/26/2001 11:19 AM EST

Other on team #71, Team Hammond, from Team Hammond.

Looking over the partial list of attendees, there are some really good teams going which will result in some super alliances. Also, I think most folks are going with a "lets have fun and let it all hang out" attitude, therefore I believe that 800 is a given and don't be too shocked if a 902 pops up along the way. We shall see, but one thing for sure, it's gonna rock!

Latest Info and Who is Coming

Bill and all,

Here is the latest on the "IRI":

Here is the latest list of attending teams:
27, 33, 45, 47, 65, 65 (backup team), 66, 67, 71, 85, 93, 109, 111, 135, 190, 221, 234, 240, 288, 292, 308, 393, 447, 461, 469, 535, 681

As Bill said, there are some excellent teams coming... it could even be better than any regional that took place this year!

All teams will get at least 5 qualification matches, and we'll have 4 alliances in the finals... but with only 4 teams per alliance. At this point of the season, robots shouldn't break down too often, and if they do, then we'll see the stretcher in use.

Take care,
Andy B.

You've really got me curious now. What tricks does team 71 have up its sleeve? Where are you going to get the extra 10 base points in order to score 800? Or are you going to do the near impossible and try to finish in

Bill mentioned in an earlier post that 71 had stretcher pulling capability. Toss in 111's goal towing and someone like 67 for limbo/big ball/bridge reset, and 800-820 points is definitly doable. Get it done in a seeding round, and two of the four teams get between 880 and 902 points.

At IRI I would put my money on 71, 111, 67, & 190 (weighing in at 18 lbs.) to get it done.

I've already posted that I think 177, 175, 126, & 190 could get it done at Battle Cry (except for the 2 v. 2 format).

Not sure which west coast teams could pull it off, but I bet there's at least one combination.

Good Luck,

P.J.

One thing that I've always noticed is that during the summer competitions, the teams really get their robots working like they want them to.

There are MANY combinations that could score over 700 points in Kokomo.

Teams 308, 135, and 111 may be able to balance two goals just as fast as 71, and still get into the end zone.

Teams 85 and 469 are right there with 67 as far as big ball limboing ability.

There are a number of teams who can play the role as a tow-bot, maybe some as good or better than 111!

There sure are alot of combinations... maybe even some small balls scored in the far goal.

I'm sure that someone will post an update with how the event went. We will be videotaping the competition, in case somebody posts a mega-high score.

Andy B.

Cousin Andy,

Hope you didn't take offense. I just rattled off the the set of 4 teams that jumped out at me when I looked at the list.

I'd certainly like to see multiple combos over 700. Too bad 177 won't be there to be a part of it all.

Will you guys have any sort of "happy hour" at the end of the day to try out some combos that don't come together during the official matches?

Have a blast!

P.J.

p.s. - don't forget to add 45 to the list of first class tow bots

Teams as good as or better at towing than 111? Absolutely! 33, 45 & 66 come to mind.

Small balls? Someone tell Matt to drag team 73 to IRI. I've heard a lot about them (mostly from Matt) and wish I got to see them at Nats.

Mentioning goal towers without the RoboDawgs? Its a crime! We can grab the goals anywhere: corners, flats, whatever! The RoboDawg laughs at the thought of the stretcher and says, "Bring it on!"

Well, except for the fact that I'll be in Long Island
and that our RC doesn't work (we had to get a
replacement at Nats and just shipped the broken one
back -- the master CPU wouldn't boot) and that we're
pretty much out of money, I don't think we can make
it. I'm still hoping to drag us to the MD State Fair
(NASA/GSFC is running a scrimmage then) but I have a
feeling that won't happen.

Matt who has a feeling that his team's season is
over...

I hope at both competitions (IRI and Battlecry) there will be some opportunity to put together some "dream team" alliances and post a new high score

I know AndyB has mentioned it for IRI if there is time.. I really hope their is.. and if we can utilize our 'stretcher bot' (it would be the FIRST time) it would be AWESOME!

As for Battlecry... heading it up for T190 (as opposed to being 'staff') I don't know much more than the lay-folks regarding how the day will run... but hopefully we will have some time to see it happen!

Good Luck to all.. we can't wait for IRI.. and official registration for Battlecry should be up in the very near future, and I'm sure Jon will post as soon as it is... so keep a look out!!
